I have some unfortunate news to share with you all. My Mother and I were involved this past Sunday in a horrific auto accident. I suffered a broken femur which had to repaired by surgery and my mother suffered also a cracked femer, broken heel, and broken wrist.

Keep us in your prayers. We are undergoing therapy and I feel like I am making progress in my rehabilitative therapy and will be back to my old self in just a few weeks. Keep us in your prayers.

A little bit of an update on the situation.

Yesterday, we had a follow-up checkup at the orthopedic's office. According to his examination.....I am healing along like I should. Mom however, it was a different story.
After looking at the x-ray's, it was determined that the splints and casts had not held the broken bones of her femur totally rigid.....the bone break had shifted to where it was now offset. The doctor's office is next door to the hospital......so it turned out they could get her in for surgery to put in some rods and pins. While in surgery, it became apparent that she was also suffering from a bronchial infection....so they now have her recuperating in a pulmonary care monitoring room for a day or two to clear up the lung infection, then they will progress from there to therapy and a short stay in a rehabilitation facility to help her regain her full mobility.

Wow - God Bless, Rick and your Mom

Quick Update on our progress: I have been able to help out a local shop a small bit for Valentines - Granted, it was no where near as much as I wish I could have done in the shop, Mom is coming home from her stay in the rehabilitation clinic today. Her progress according to the doctors has been almost miraculous. They say she is further along in her recovery than 90 percent of patients who have suffered the same traumas as she has. I have been able to walk some short distances without aid of a walker or other walking aid such as a cane.

So, We are well on the way to healing and hopefully a full recovery. Now comes the important part, getting all the bills together and getting them to the attorneys so they can begin to negotiate a nice settlement for us with the insurance companies and the business insurances, since it was a company owned vehicle that caused the accident.

Good news of your continuing recovery! Tell your mom to continue to be careful with her leg. My mom had knee replacement last June, and as with your mom, everyone was amazed at how well she was recovering. She even went home after only a week at a rehab center. Then on Labor Day, she fell and broke the kneecap of that same knee. The surgery to repair the kneecap did not "take" because of the scar tissue. The tendon separated from the kneecap. Now and forevermore, she must wear a knee immobilizer and walk with a walker. She will never drive again. So. please tell your mom to be very, very careful!!!!

So glad to hear that you and your Mom are doing better! Recovery is a long and hard process--especially when you are a go-getter like yourself.
Keep up the great work.

Love ya

T

don't get greedy, GET WELL FIRST...THEN think about the settlements!!
It's important that you document EVERY conversation, make copies of EVERY transaction, record ANY promises made, and by whom, and retain EVERY progress report for YOUR records.
You'll learn to HATE insurance companies, IF you miss ANYTHING!!

Luckily, My sister had the foresight to get us a good attorney from the get-go when the accident first happened. We have everything so far in writing, all the doctor's and progress reports from the hospital and rehabilitation facility are copied and sent to the attorney along with each and every billing we get in the mail.

The way our attorney says that the settlement process works is this: As soon as all the bills and all documentation is in, then they will begin to negotiate with the business and the insurance companies a complete settlement figure that not only covers all the medical bills, but includes a "nice" figure for pain, suffereing, inconvience, etc. Once they have what they think is a suitable figure, then they'll contact us with the amount and we then look at our needs, other unrelated bills, possible long-tern life changes as a result of the accident, and determine if that figure meets our needs or not, If not, then we let them know and they begin to work on getting us a figure that meets our needs. They will give the insurance companies every opportunity to avoid taking the matter to the courts.
