Vick now a Eagle?! WTF!

V,
I am sitting here sobbing hysterically in my shop, I hope no customers come in. It has been a long time, since I cried about anything and a part of me welcomes the relief.

I love dogs and all animals, well, maybe not snakes and frogs, and I have had mixed feelings about Vick. It appears he is remorseful for his errors in judgement, has taken his punishment like a man, and perhaps deserves a second chance at his job. But, dog fighting is such a heartless, uncivilized business, can he really change? The really sad part is when the dogs are rescued, most have to be euthanized because of their inbred aggressiveness. It is my impression that well bred pit bulls make intelligent, loving protective pets. Me, I always have had mixed breeds.

I worked for a vet in New Jersey part time 5-6 years ago. The vet's wife told me a story about how the animal control folks from the township brought in a shar-pei that had been torn to pieces by dogs that were being trained by one of Vick-like people. The vet was able to save the dog. She told me that these "trainers" hang the dog up to something and then let their dogs tear into it.

Second chances? How many second chances did all the dogs that suffered from this brutality receive. Maybe Bernie Madoff deserves a second chance, too? After all, he stopped when he got caught.

In the above story, I asked what the punishment was for the guy who did this. The answer: a small fine. This was because the township laws weren't strong enough to do anything else.

Because hurting animals doesn't really count unless it's a big horrible story. I'm sickened by all of it. Anyone who hurts animals will not hesitate to hurt humans.

What a story Victoria!

My sweet dog has picked out pitbulls many, many times to play with at the dog parks and trails we frequent. I firmly believe that dogs know things that we don't know, and I think that Cork befriends the pits because somehow he knows that some people and probably their dogs too, give off vibes that the pits are inferior in some way. So they get mega attention from my boy...and me!

I wonder if Vick indeed has "reformed," will the vivid memories of what he did haunt him? I can't even watch a nature show where the lion kills another animal for prey!
