But John & Joe ... that sounds so much like ... "business" ;) /sarcasm

Ryan

May be business............but I think that's what I would call looking after the bottom line!

Seriously you have to check your wire service statments every month, we've had florists try to bill us for orders they sent to us to fill, along with many other screwed up items.
One other thing to look into if you are a small town florist, Teleflora offers a $30.00 monthly credit for membership, but what they don't tell you is that the clearinghouse fees are then 9% instead of 7%!! They also don't show the clearinghouse fees separately so you need a calculator..........So now if you are small member town statice and you receive more than $1500 incoming orders it's costing you more than paying full membership fees.

You've got to check your FTD statement as well, specially for tricks that the OG's try when you send an ASK for more$$..........lots of them will reply with another ASK message showing your requested price!!!! That won't cut it with FTD's system you need and ASK followed by and ANS message to confirm the price change, I've had FTD.Com try this one as well more than a few times.

The bottom line is if you want to stay in business you've got to do the paperwork...........all of it and properly!!

And if you don't, who's fault is that?

Blame the wire service if you like, but I'd rather blame George Bush.

Okay guys we know that is true, but...........
having seen three "wire service shops" here in this tri-town area come and go in the past 6 years or so....I know for sure that none of those owners were given a "step by step" of their Monthly Wire Service Statement.
None of them had any "business" degrees and were those who wanted to play with flowers..........and the old adage as per TF phone banks "we want them all"....signed them up.
What do they get...selection guide, some posters, promo material, a few Headquarters orders, free containers, and some stickers for their windows. It is rare to get a rep in this area..took almost two years for one to inspect a shop that is unbelieveably inept here. (and btw, they let them keep TF)
In the old days groan A rep made sure you understood what was on a statement and went through your "listings". Now they look at anyone close and say don't you want to codify the same as so and so?
Who wouldn't want to join? For a few months, the checks come in from them why look at where the money comes from or goes to?
And a log of orders in/out?? What's that?
I feel bad for a shop who really wants to produce quality designs, please their customer and the recipient but doesn't realize what a WS membership does TO them.
Lighten up......it does happen. (Lots)

Not trying to say wire services aren't slippery............but like with any purchase or deal you make in life it's buyer beware! read the fine print whenever you sign a contract or make a purchase! And if you're not sure ask someone who knows.

I'm hoping that most of the members on this board check their statements with a fine tooth comb, but if not I'm hoping this will be a wakeup call for them. Not trying to put anyone down here just letting florists know some of the things to look out for when they belong to a wire service.
