Wedding Rings or No?

my wife just go a new wedding ring in oct.(our 46th) anniversary...its the biggest gawdiest thing I could find, she wears it all the time, since she never had a nice ring before people think its fake....its a good thing lo...we know its not

My rings are in my jewelery box. I used to wear them all the time, but my anniversary band flew off my finger 1 time too many, so I put them away.

My poor engagement ring got stuck setting up a wedding and ended up pretty twisted. I know I should get them reshaped or maybe put on a stronger band...perhaps when I have an extra $300 on a day that I am all caught up on my todo list.

My husband almost lost his ring while arresting someone. Luckily, one of the other officers saw it go flying and picked it up. His now sits beside mine in the jewelry box.

Our house was broken into last year, and by the grace of God, the thieves didn't know that the top of my jewelery box opened (maybe because there was a pile of crap on top of it). They stole everything else, even the drawers, but never opened the top where our rings were. We were SO lucky!!!!

Hi Fleuray

The question to ask yourself is how would you feel if your ring got damaged and could not be repaired? My husband bought me a new ring a few years ago as I wanted a wider one, so he wears my old one on his chain around his neck. You could do what peter Andre did, by having the date of his wedding to Jordon, tattooed under his wedding ring, so when you are not wearing it, you can see the tattoo. I am thinking of having this done for my 25th wedding anniversary. Simple tattoo like 21.06.86
I really like this idea although it wont appeal to some.

I've been married a couple times...ok, well, three. But happily only this time 'round. We decided to gather up our old rings and make new matching rings with our own design. We chose the eternity symbol, and changed one of the triangles into a heart. The diamond from my mom's (now passed) engagement ring was used in my ring. The ring is flat so I don't have to worry about it catching on anything or the big diamond coming loose. Hubby's ring has three small diamonds in the corners of one of the triangles, representing "juggling" - he's a juggler.... Can't imagine not wearing my ring!

Mine's a round solitaire on a very simple yellow gold ring and I've never had to repair it. It does get scuffed though. I do take it off when I sleep but that's the only time. It's insured and replaceable.

We're thinking about doing something more custom for me, with rubies, for our 10th anniversary (coming up) and if so I may wear a simple fakey one for work and my real one off the clock. Or depending on the day. Some days are pretty tame; make a few arrangements, do a lot of computer stuff. On those heavy processing or set up days I might not wear it.

Thanks so much everyone! We have reached a perfect compromise (and thanks for mentioning the insurance, I had never even considered it)

We are going to get a simple silver ring to replace the ones I wear to work...

From Tiffany's!

It's just a touch over a hundred dollars, so inexpensive enough that I can do all the things that I am going to do to it. But fun enough that I can still be excited about my ring. (I just kept picturing my husband picking up a grocery store novelty ring for the *replacement* )

During the last repair I learned that I take a lot of comfort from the weight of the ring on my finger otherwise putting on a necklace would be the way to go.

Great big hugs for all the help you have offered us!

I usually always wear my rings. I take them off when we go to the Lake, cuz they bother me when I hold the rope handle when waterskiing. And as Erlene mentioned, I never wear them in the pool or hot tub.

On our 20th anniversary, hubby bought me a 3 carrat Tanzanite ring. I decided to wear it on my left hand because of the fact that Tanzanite is one of the softer gems. I figured that it would get less abuse on the left hand...I'm right handed. I had it recut twice due to scratches. On the second repair, a very tallented jeweler suggested making a "bezzel" (sp?) around the stone. He also made it heavier and square on the bottom (back side of my finger), so that it wouldn't turn.

I then wore my Wedding/Engagement rings on the right hand. A couple years ago I decided that I wanted a larger Diamond Ring...So I bought it for myself. This one I have insured. I had my wedding rings sized to fit my left pinky.

Nope...no problems wearing them while working. Oh btw I also wear thumb rings and toe rings. I wear a total of nine rings. That's as rebellious as I get. I figure that it's much easier to exchange rings if I should choose than to get any permanant tatoos. I am sure that I would get tired of them--then what?
