Miss Alana is awaiting surgery on her seriously damaged leg/ankle. She has a break, a fracture and a dislocation. She has a great ortho guy who will perform the procedure tomorrow. She'll be off work for at least three months.

Thank goodness she's home where the care will certainly be far superior to what she had while in Uganda.

Send a good thought or two her way.

Glad they were able to fulfill most of their dreams... wishing her a very speedy and complete recovery.

:) Lying in a hospital bed is giving her the opportunity to go through the over 2300 pictures they took. She's editing, cataloguing and the like. Oh and they're planning the trip to Anarctica in February (wishful thinking) Oy...

being "forced" to take time "off" from an adventure, due to injury, is very cruel...good thing Alanna's got the mommy she's gots!!

I am afraid to ask what the hel l she was doing to manage a multitude of injuries...
Please give her a hug for me...

Mike, she also is blessed with friends in high places. Her doctor and his wife got her in to the head guy at the Fowler Clinic... so no waiting and expertise in the area of orthopedics. I'm grateful beyond belief. She's requiring screws and a plate and an air cast (no more ten tonne plaster to cart around). It will be done right and she'll be strong again.

V, you know I hate to correct your spelling, but didn't you mean the "Flower Clinic??" ;)

Is she getting "frequent patient" discounts yet?

Good thing this accident happened at the end of their journey, wow.
Fowler clinic will have her in the hands of the best ortho in the city for sure. And some of the cutest men for her physio after....and I speak from experience! I know Canadians bash our system, but we are blessed with some very fine medical people. Hope she is feeling better soon. I will keep her in my thoughts, and only the positive ones.

My best wishes to Alana for a complete and speedy recovery. So lucky to have happened towards the end of her trip. Going through that many pictures should keep her busy. I too can't wait to "go" to Antarctica!

I'm on her apple and (hate the keyboard!) sitting in the waiting room. It's been a long wait for her.

Thank you all. I'll post later when I get home. Missy, our system rocks and I'm grateful to infininity that we have and that she is in such kind and capable hands.
