I just finished bride's bouquet for tomorrow--dozen hot pink roses, 8 pink/white mini calla's & white agapathus blossoms--hand-tied, no greenery. Found my original notes that said to make it a "nice size" (10-12"?). Well, the completed size is only 8-10". I already added 4 more roses and 3 more mini calla's as well as some lily grass loops around the bottom (she wanted no greenery). I almost just want to cry about the finished size. I tried spiraling the stems when I made it so they would fan out as much as possible, but I think I should have quoted it with at least a dozen more roses to get this size. I finished the stems and put it in the cooler for now. Do you think I should take it apart and re-do it? I don't have any more roses or calla's, the roses didn't look that great anyway and most of the agapanthus didn't even open up after having out of the cooler all week. I'm thinking just to let it go, however the detail person in me just hates the fact that it's so small and am afraid the bride will too. Maybe I should just work on excuses for when I talk to her next week. :(

If there's still time on your hand, make it right. Spend your time to improve it rather than thinking of excuse or rationalizing it, you'll most likely spend even more time afterwards dwelling on this, and it's not healthy.

Any spray roses on hand? I've done bouquets with only 3 roses, but filled in the gaps with freesia, spray roses, and same color tone but different shades of fillers. contrasting texture between the blooms and filler can compensat for size. Hope this is not confusing, it makes sense in my mind.

I have a ton of aggies, however, they are still tight as a drum. The ones I put in the bouquet are individually wired florets. I would say the roses are medium open. I think I may try to re-work it. I'm thinking a good judgement call would be to add a few spray roses as well as some rebeka alstro's and some white status, even though we never talked about having those in her bouquet, the bouts and corsages have those. Thanks for the input!

so what if they are tight.

Take the bouquet apart and add 3 white aggies to it for girth. the buds of the aggies will be pretty accent flowers and get you your volume.

i ALWAYS ASK THE BRIDES TO COME IN THE DAY BEFORE TO VIEW THEIR FLOWERS HELPS ME SLEEP:spin

I think I will add the aggies.

And I would have loved for her to come in, but I just got it done a couple hours ago! Three weddings and one florist is just sometimes too much for me!

Thanks everyone!

ctherose....if I were you just take a few deep breaths...relax have a bit of a break and don't think about it...get your mind off it just for about say 30-45 mins....then go back in and tackle it. If you are not 100% sure about it then it will reflect not only in your bouquet but also when she comes to complain....so re-do it...don't have problems....just breath! Add the little necessary things to make it appear bigger and you will be that relived that you re-did it and its over.

Its alllllll goooooood!!!!

Stop worrying!!!! Do you have any verigated Italian pitt or anything else to add to the center as an armature/filler? I always give the bride the substitution lecture (for my sanity).

I would add some spray roses (as mentoined) and the aggies...even the white statice (inside where they are more for fullness than filler). I personally would hold off on the alstro, because it is too big and will visually become more than a filler. just think full!!

Your bride will not have a ruler on her tomorrow, so relax!!!!! Everything will be fine!

Oh, yeah, I'm with Brad...add stock!!!!! Forget the statice and the alstro, add white stock and you'll be done!!!!! It doesn't have a grocery store association like alstro and is much prettier than statice or unopen aggies. Brad wins, add stock!!!

What would I do in this situation? I'd go buy more roses ASAP in the morning. Honestly, a bride spends so much time selecting her perfect wedding flowers and stares at those photos for months. If there are other flowers added (statice, alstro, stock, etc) it will not have the same look and feel as she imagined. I don't think she'll she happy. I'd either leave it alone if you quoted her with stem counts or take the loss and add more flowers to make the dimension that was in your contract. Good luck and go with your gut.

Unfortunately I don't have stock. If I did I'd bury my nose in it and drift off to dream-land!

The thought did cross my mind to get up early and get more roses but the chances of the wholesale even having any is slim to none. Besides, for a $168 bouquet that I had already added more callas and roses to, I wasn't going to use $12 worth of gas to give away more flowers.

I re-did the bouquet. I was not happy with it and I just couldn't let it go out the door. I added several stems of aggies and that pretty much did the trick. I personally don't care for the bouquet but it is close to what she wanted. The picture she showed me was very neat and orderly with little aggies spaced evenly amongst the roses. The finished product doesn't exactly have that feel, but it does go along with the body flowers and the bridesmaids flowers that have funky wire in them.

It's just been bad vibes from the get-go. When I realized I previously took out the last pack of light green tape from the box and now have 3 rolls with very little on them and nothing else left but dark green, I already knew it would be bad (I hate dark green tape!). Then I've been having a rose quality issue. At $1.30-$1.40/stem I expect perfection and I'm just not getting it. Have a whole bunch of Anna's come in Monday and a couple days ago they were getting bad. And, of course, the spray roses didn't match the regular roses EXACTLY and that was really bugging me. And then the aggies wouldn't open. It's funny that no matter how many weddings I've done, there's always something new to learn! Thank God I don't usually do a lot of them on a regular basis or I'd be a wrek! The main lesson I've learned from this is don't let the bride pick too many specifics just in case things go wrong.

I'm posting a pix of the bouquet. Keep in mind that hand-tieds are just now becoming popular here and I have yet to hone in on the best way to make my hands do what I want them to! (And the lighting sucks too).

Thanks everyone!

The bouquet is lovely. Next time, though, make sure you get enough money. Based on prices here, she got a bargain. That will make it go down a little easier if you need to add extra. Good luck today!

The bouquet is beautiful, I am sure she will love it...You need to remember we are harder on ourselves than they ever will be...I get way stressed like that when things just don't come in just the way I want them. The right shade, the right size, the stems to fat, rose heads too small, not the best quality, I hate it all...and it always semms that when i order for weddings the wholesalers are charging me 1/3 more for the flowers and I am getting half the quality of usual...I hate that too..

She will love it it is beautiful...
