What would you charge?

I just spoke to the person who made this, and control the laughter folks, They charged 875.00 for this... and it is flocked branches...it is a very easy design to do, and it is not as much in there as you think, according to the person, who has made this...also when bying the stuff for this, shop the for the grande orchids, that will give you the look easier..

I'm going more towards $2500 with the table decorations also.
Time wise guessing 2 hours for both but leave extra time like shannonlovesflowers had stated. I would make them on site also. Do all the prep work and than crank it out at the site. Delilah has a good receipe going there.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Did they rent or sell the vase? I am blown away by that price! Did they make it back in the 70's? I hope you passed along our compliments on the arrangement!

I also have a stupid question...are the grande orchids just larger (like a better grade)?

No, I do not think there is an oasis ball in the center if you're asking just anyone......

If it is done in foam, or should I say if you are going to do it in foam, use a clear design dish, They make em in all sizes, and just place it on top of the vase.

And $850 for those arrangements, WHAT THE HECK!!!!!!!

Thanks Queen for the valuable input. I'm glad you told me that it's an easy design because I was getting pretty overwhelmed here. I think I would still charge a bit more for the "wow! affect" or is that "effect." :wide:

And thanks to everyone for your formulas!

You can create it with oasis balls really easily on a plastic lomey plate or large grande cages wired back to back. I would use as oasis sphere & wrap it w/chicken wire. You need good mechanics to hold it together. The handles of cages can slide right in the top of the vase. It is not hard to do. I would use the sphere w/wire on lomey plate with a plastic spray can lid glued on the bottom middle to hold in the vase. The chicken wire will provide support for the large branches so that you can make a great show. If someone did it for $875 I'd like to know how many flowers they used because it sure looks like a lot more than that. JUst make a practice piece from silk to test out what you need to get the look you want. Just be careful when you quote a price. We florists always undersell ourselves.

I really like that floristique's answer addressed some of the mechanics issues. I have created some similar pieces and the chicken wire around oasis really lends it a big hand on stability and cuts down on assembly time. It also allows the submerged portion of the design to be designed beforehand. With that size of arrangement, I have usually designed on site, with all of the branches and oasis being completed assembled beforehand. That will be really beautiful!! If you don't me asking, what other things are you doing for the wedding?

Sorry to chime in here late in the game, but I just read the whole post and was struck by the fact that you are "limiting" the bride. I know it's scary to over commit yourself, but how much more do you think she might give you if she knew the sky was the limit and she could have you do as much as she could afford?

We have been in the situation a few times when we had HUGE events (for our shop). Each time I think the employees were panicked beforehand wondering how we could possibly pull it off. But with great planning, we did it without a hitch, and it did WONDERS for our business and reputation.

I have always believed that if I was given the opportunity to do a job that was "too big" for our shop, I would start calling all my florist friends to come freelance for a few days. I know they would do it, and I would if they asked me. Is there anyone you can bring in to help you make this your (and her) ultimate event? You may look back on this and say "That was the turning point for my shop..."

I bet anyone on this board would come help you in a heartbeat... Heck, Shannon already offered! Food for thought, anyway!

You are so right Michelle and I have called in a few freelancers for that much needed extra help.

What size sphere are you thinking. Don't you think the branches are just going to rip that foam apart?
