So, the florist I went to for my parents' anniversary party gave me phenomenal service and too low of a price. I want to do something for them. I want to give them a gift of some sorts, but can't figure out what. Any ideas of what makes a good gift for a florist, since its not like I can send them flowers?

I was thinking a Panera lunch card for the shop? Or a really great bakery delivery? Or chocolate?

Any ideas?

So glad that your anniversary party was a success!

As for the gift -- any of them would be great. And just to add to the confusion of more choices: movie passes, massage, manicures ....

Call the shop, make sure you don't get the owner and ...

SEND THEM SOME FLOWERS~!

Nothing like, receiving FLOWERS~!

And don't think just because they can take them home for free that they do... I always appreciate when I GET FLOWERS.

My favorite gift to receive and always has been flowers. I think a really beautiful bouquet would be an appropriate choice.

When a florist or designer tells me they sure don't anyone sending them flowers.....I decide that they probably should not be in the flower business.

Buddy buys me lots of things, but, my favorite gift was one Valentine's when we were so busy, he went in another room and designed several dozen lavender roses for me. There has never been a gift at any price that has surpassed that one.

flowers of course but some good coffee itsn't a bad ad on.

My hubby is always bringing me flowers. cuts or in soil or just a start. I found tulips in the garage yesterday and a couple new rex begonia starts in the sink (don't ask about that one) and I LOVE IT>

there's a new helleborus waiting for the snow to go AWAY for the garden.

Oh and if they garden out of doors. right now is a great time to add on some new garden gloves.......

Gotta tell ya was always nice to be taken to a BIG STEAK dinner and have flowers on the table.

In addition to the stuff listed above, give them a great review on google/yahoo and send them a card telling them you did that. Nothing says thank you like an internet review.

Thats an awesome idea!!

Money is always good gift!!

I agree with sending some flowers...Find a shop in the area that has a very different style but has really nice selection and design style, you know like a florist that a florist would shop in...and send something from that shop..with a card and a review of their shop there would be no better gift for a florist. Everyone always assumes that we wouldn't want flowers as a gift, but a real florist would love nothing better than actual flowers for themselves.

Well I am in the minority with receiving flowers. I love flowers as a gift, and I love it when a family member calls my shop and ask one of my designers to design something and place it on my work bench or my desk. But, I would not really enjoy getting flowers from another shop that would irritate me, and I would wonder if there was a message in them purchasing them else where. I would see it differently if I was out of town and received flowers.

I tend to agree with Joan on sending flowers from another shop. One of the big names in AIFD once sent me flowers for my birthday from my direct competition. Even though I understood his reasoning, It kind of left me with a negative feeling. It was not nearly as pretty as one of my designers could have created and they would have known my tastes and colors much better.

The next year, he did call one of my designers to surprise me with the neatest design. That worked so much better.

I love flowers but I wouldn't want to get them from another florist. I had an order once for a delivery for a grand opening to a grocery store that was also a florist and I felt really uncomfortable about sending a delivery there. I even asked the sender if they realized the shop was a florist.
I know for myself I would love a new design book or a floral design magazine subscription. I can't get enough of them but I can't afford to get as many as I would like. I always have a ready answer when family ask what they can get me for my birthday, Christmas, etc.

I am definitely with Joan on this one. While I'd be a sucker for a great meal and flowers on the table when I'm out of town, I'd hate receiving flowers done by my local competitors.
Sarah, since you're in the supply business, I know for myself I would love a new set of tools that were for ME ONLY - nice knife, shears, floral snips and wire cutters that no one else better touch!!

I guess it depends on how many people work at the shop. If it is a one or two man show, the answer will be different than if they have alot of employees.
If there's just a couple of them, then I love the idea of a new set of tools (for each), with a great bunch of unusual flowers in a handtied, that can be shared.
If there are lots of them, I don't think it would be fair to just give to the owner...it was probably many of them who prepared the flowers for your parents party. So a terrific lunch brought in would be nice for everyone. Not just sweets, customers do that all the time...but nice cheese, pate, crackers, breads, meats, salads, everthing that would appeal to different tastes. Or if you really want to splurge, a dinner out for the entire staff.

I do also like to get flowers, But it has to come from someone really good and not in my town! I loved it when Cathy sent me flowers, but it came from her shop, which was SOOO AWESOME!!!

However, I think in this situation- Nothing says "good job" like a tip. And tip the whole staff, not just the owner and/or manager. It takes a whole staff to pull off an event..Really just the day to day stuff too!

I love to get tips. We don't have a tip jar at the shop though. I got "tip jared out" in Durango..They even had a tip jar at the Dairy Queen DRIVE THRU!! Good Grief.

But I personally love love love it when I get a tip. It makes me feel good. And lets face it, we can all use a little extra cash right now. So that's my 2 cents...Give 'em a tip!!

I think the panera lunch for the shop is really really nice and maybe a nice bottle of wine for the shop owner.(Find out from one of the employees what kind of wine he or she likes) I love flowers and always love receiving them, but in this case I wouldn't send flowers. A nice testimonial and hand written note is a definite.
