I've had 3 customers call me this week to tell me that they are switching from Teleflora to FTD. This is highly unusual. What is FTD offering that is having such an impact?

wish I knew. I sent 18 orders out last month, got in 14...I Pay a Low Sending FEE AGAIN this month. This really ticks me off.

Show them whats up, and that you sent 100% (if you did) FTD, or that you sent more FTD vs. Tf and I "think" they will take that charge off...

Don;t hold me to it, but....

Hmmmm George.... even tho you are not a florist...here goes....

Everyone knows the FTD of the past (the Perry Group Days) was well shal we say not very florist friendly. Bob was paid alot of money to do what the Perry Group wanted him to do. Get rid of the Association (which is now in the infancy of coming back in the next month or so in the form of Districts), get the rights to the Logo, and many other things.

He was painted as a bad guy (which he can be) but he was simply doing the job he was hired to do.

Now, 8 years later, the Leonard Green Group owns FTD, and the focus has turned form the fight to get all of FTD under one roof to a model that is more florist friendly, more focused on helping florists make money, and become stronger in their local markets.

Many here, know I have been harping on them for years about helping the florists, and it is finall coming to light. Yes, they still fight on the web, yes they still charge fees (read TAXES) but I truely believe that they are more customer (florists) focused than they have been in 20 years.

They KNOW, that without the Florists they have no biz....

Many will not believe me, many will hold to the feelings of FTD being a predator. And while this WAS true in the past the model going forward is to assist florists (those that chose to take an open honest look) at taking over their local market, and in many ways.

Many cry about FTD and the Big Boxes, while in reality it's local florists working with the Big Box stores to further their local biz.

Take Home Depot for instance...the model here, is that a LOCAL florist services HD 3 times a week (more if needed) with BQTS. FTD provides the racks and coolers at no charge to the member, FTD garners the contract with HD (somerthing a local florist has no hope of doing) and then HD keeps 15% and the LOCAL florist gets 85%, when they buy the product thru FTD Fresh Flowers. The BQTS (which are VERY NICE) come ready to sell, with the only thing needed is a fresh cut.

The LOCAL REAL FLORIST, puts their card, flyer or whatever they want with the BQTS, and the racks/coolers have the LOCAL REAL FLORISTS LOGO and contact info on them. (and soon perhaps a live link PC to conect to the store).

All the florist does is show up M-W-F and add more flowers to the display. Same model available for ANYWHERE a florist want to put them in.

Now, many will say FTD is doing this, but as is the case with a friend of mine down south, he is servicing 23 HD's in his market, and selling thousands of Bqts a month. It's not FTD selling them it's the LOCAL FLORIST.

Thats part of one thing....

There are many other reasons that folks are moving toward FTD, Technology, Product, orders (and here folks will say they are in competition with florists, which while partially true, they are also fighting against 800, ProFlowers and more to get the orders into the FTD chain and into FTD florists, as "most" florists want more orders) and many other programns to help florists build their local biz.

I just returned from 3 days of meetings in Chi-town, 28 florists were there, many FTD and some NOT even members, and I know personally that after the NON-members heard and saw, they came away with knowlegde and tools to help their biz too, and MANY will make the move to FTD in the next few months....

THere are so many programs and products coming out this next few months I do not have room here to explain them all, and my fingers are tired, check out FTDi.com for more details.

And then George, whats does TF have ?? Yes right now they have better containers.... ANYTHING else ???

Oh, I know, they have ProFlowers sameday delivery orders...KaBloom's orders...and any number of other gatherers. Not saying FTD does not have some too, BUTT FTD has BUSINESS TOOLS for florists, along with some of the BEST Technology in the biz, the most knowledgable people in the industry, Fresh Flowers, and a Re-vamped container program, that once it gets up to full steam, is going to give TF a run.... especially considering the Franklin Mint is going into the toilet....

I'd be happy to go on, as you all know I am Pro-FTD, but then again I am an FTD-PRO too....

To start, there will be 25 I think, mostly in larger metro areas simply due to the economics of re-building the districts.

They will be Educational/Business focused, NOT political as in the past.

Another piece in FTD's COMITMENT to the LOCAL Florist, in helping them to be the best at what they do.

Look at www.ftdi.com for more details, or Contact Lorrie Stowe, you all remember her, She is still doing her usual excellent job in the education arena...

Nothing to worry about George, you have a Merc Interface don't ya ??

The fog from the propaganda is starting to clear, and folks are really seeing a way to grow their business on a local level by teaming with a national player...

D*mn it's gonna be a fun summer.... wait til I tell ya'll about the little goddie we got from NASA... all in good time, all in good time....

Hey Mikey... Seems the flow is gaining speed !!!

I have heard from a few florists in the last couple weeks that were (keyword were) TF only, wanting to discuss programs and technology from a florists point of view.

And one, I just did an install for, even sent the Duck packing...

SHOW ME the money.....then I'll believe. It takes a long time to turn a big company around. Like turning a battle ship.
Do not forget that they are in business to make money. That is why they are called an INVESTMENT group! This will be with florist or with out the florists. Besides, it sounds like you are just setting people up again. THESE guys DO NOT care if the they put any number of mom and pops out of business beacuse they will fill the sink hole with fulfillment centers and filling stations which they will controll

You know, we have been hearing this song from FTD for a while now.
Same song they have been singing for a few years now...
different verses.

Re: Revenues Fiscal 2000, 2001, 2002

REVENUES FISCAL 2000, 2001, 2002

FLORIST BUSINESS 66.9%, 61.6%, and 52.6 % respectfully.

CONSUMER BUSINESS 33.1%, 38.4%, and 47.4% respectfully.

So, their DIRECT CONSUMER BUSINESS went from 33.1% in fiscal 2000 to 47.4% total revenues in fiscal 2002 for a whopping increase of 43% in only three years.

And, their FLORIST BUSINESS went down from 66.9% in fiscal 2000 to 52.6% in fiscal 2002, or a drop of 21.4% during those same three years.

Which then, makes me wonder if, their encroachment on FLORIST CONSUMER SALES has any direct correlation regarding their drop of 21.4% FLORIST BUSINESS.

Anyone want to go out on a limb here and suggest that; FLORISTS are not as stupid as they think we are?

Based on the current curve, it would appear that FISCAL 2003 would show that, their CONSUMER BUSINESS REVENUES would exceed their FLORIST BUSINESS REVENUES, whereby, they would then be forced to publicly declare that; THEIR FOCUS IS CLEARLY ON CONSUMER BUSINESS which would then be, in direct competition with their FLORIST BUSINESS.

Can anyone tell me where else this OBVIOUS ANOMALY OCCURS in a so called PARTNERSHIP, where ONE OF THE PARTNERS uses the other partner to FILL THE SAME ORDERS for which, BOTH OF THOSE PARTNERS ARE COMPETING FOR but, at A SEVERE DISCOUNT?

Then, that same partner uses the other partner's dues and revenues to COMPETE EVEN HARDER in their partner's market while telling their partners that; They are spending $40 million each year to ADVERTISE FOR THEIR PARTNERS, but NOT!

My good friend FOX quotes PT BARNUM, when he said; A SUCKER IS BORN EVERY MINUTE! And, I can attest to that statement since, I BEEN THERE, DID THAT, TOO!

I can only hope that, more REAL FLORISTS WAKE UP and soon, since, learning to JUST SAY NO!, winds up to be their only hope in the SAME-DAY-DELIVERY ARENA, their MARKET NICHE!

Well, all I can say is that; A Leopard never changes their spots!

Until I SEE PROOF of a DRAMATIC CHANGE in their FOCUS from trying to STEAL OUR CUSTOMER BUSINESS over to MAKING THEIR FLORISTS PROFITABLE, I'll HOLD ONTO MY MONEY!

As to STARTING UP THE DISTRICTS again? They burned those bridges when the BOUGHT OUT (off) the ASSOCIATION.

For MEE, those nine years from 1994 to 2004, turned out to be more of a DATE RAPE than a PARTNERSHIP.

The LITANY OF THEIR PAST LIES is a matter of record and the proof is NOW IN THEIR WALLETS, not their FLORISTS.

FOOL MEE ONCE? Shame on you! FOOL MEE TWICE? SHAME ON MEE!

FORE! TOTO and BEEN THERE! DID THAT! He tried the CARROT and CHOSE THE STICK! Let the beatings begin again! :beer
