This has turned into a really great thread.
I won't elaborate on all the points that some of you directed at my prior comments, but a few stand out.
First to clarify: When we call out orders, we do look at the additional information given, i.e. services offered, areas served, AIFD, AAF, is the owners name the same as the shop's name, certifications, prices, .... you know the routine.
But when it comes down to a simple coin toss and we don't know who to send to that is when we default to City names or family named shops.
Someone mentioned that being the oldest doesn't necessarily means the best.
Well.... that is true up to a point.
I once saw a business (non-flower shop) slogan that read "We are not the best because we are the oldest, we are the oldest because we are the best!"
Please do not underestimate the pride of a business owner knowing that they are the oldest business in a given region. That pride of ownership comes from years of customer service!
I know we can debate back and forth and give examples of family owned/city named florists v "flowery" named florists where one is better than the other and vice-versa. There is more to the product produced and service given than just the name of the shop.
To finish, I want each and everyone of you to know, that my intent of the above and previous comments regarding family/city named florists v other named flower shops was in no way to denegrate or demean any of you with more creatively sounding flower shop names.
I realize that some family owned shops maybe managed by a H/W combo who are well past their prime and are just hanging on to the business as something to pass time.
I used to sell to one florist just like that. I loved those two old ppl and miss their business.
Sincerely:
Joe
