I can't remember the joke he told me....(I never remember jokes)
It was a stupid joke, the kind that make you laugh in spite of yourself.
I laughed and said thanks but no thanks. I'd rather have him than the "Listen Up !!!!" guy.

We get so many of these calls a day, it's unbelievable! One day during Mothers day week I was so tired of the Pitney Bowes sales call that when my employee told me they were on the phone again, I took the phone and started to tell off the person. Turned out to be someone who worked for Pitney Bowes that wanted to place an order. I apologized a gazillion times, luckily she understood and still placed it. We all laughed pretty hard after that call and then I reminded my staff to be sure they know what the call is about before anyone goes off like I had.

Anyone have any new info on this crap? It seems the problem is getting worse for us. We probably average about 30 of these calls per day! :badwords:

I've found, that if you listen long enough, at or near the end, there is sometimes an option to "Press 2" (or 9 or some number) to be removed from our database...we've been doing this for about a month, and the calls "seem" to be declining...

I have noticed that on my caller id, the sender's name is being listed but the number they call with is found on lots of lists of telemarketers..
I usually google the numbers and find them listed on sites of "dropped calls", telemarketers, or nuisance calls..

Yeah, I wait and it seemed to help for a short while, but they're increasing again. I guess I'm resolved to the fact that this has become part of the daily operation.

Lately it's been an arizona caller id #. At the end of their message it's push #2 for removal but it doesn't work. Calling every other day.

:(

So they discussed this issue on the radio this morning, and nobody could come to any concrete conclusions on the purpose of these phone calls.

Apparently if you play along and get to a live person they will eventually hang up on you. They do not attempt to sell anything. This adds more to the confusion of the point of these calls.

All the numbers that show up on caller id are hijacked numbers. So the number that shows up, is somebody else's number.

One theory is that the sole purpose of these calls are to track the times of day and week that people answer their phones. If you go as far to hit option #2 to remove from the list, all that does is put you on a different list that says you are willing to listen to the spiel. This data is used for future telemarketing.

The mystery continues...

We get way fewer since we put ourselves on the do not call list. But I will say it took a while to get fewer..

John keeps calling from NSBA to tell me that they have loads of money to spare. Maybe he needs to call AIG, they are sure looking for some.

Also, getting calls from unknown name 000-000-0000. When you answer it, it hangs up.

My personal fav, the one where the cruise ship boat horn sounds when you answer the phone. Makes you want to hit something when that horn blows! :fdevil:

Also, received a call from "dish network" according to the caller id. Caller tried to record me saying I wanted their "yellow pages". She hung up on me and I tried to call back. I even research the # on the internet to see if I could find a office number but no go.

OMG!!!! between last month and this month, I feel like that is all that calls my shop...I am so tempted to press one to take a loan because they are the only ones with some to spare...

I think in the past 3 days I have gotten 25 of theses calls....
