Well okee dokey then...and in your case, they are always subject to downward revision:rolleyes:

Can this be done over night, NO. But it can be done with trickle down effect.

Guess we know where Bad Bobby's hang'n out these days....

But they are only taking the 13%

Yes I remember. They built that brand on 7% clearinghouse fees.

Not 20, 27 or 29%. I think that's the point of many florists concerned with the current offer.

and using it for marketing ... Whereas no one else is.

The 7% they give back in a form of a check. I for one have no problem makeing 100% profit and having the consumer pay for the marketing back to them.

Call me crazy.

p.s. Mark, you know I still show that love for you, had to fire one off at you though.

Did you forget about the 7% FTD clearinghouse fee to make the total cost to florists 20% plus the .95 receiving fee?

My point was that FTD built a national powerhouse on a 7% model and it was enough to become one of the best known brands in the English speaking world. Their current 27% commission structure has seen the company plummet in market share.

Does that sound like a model to emulate?

RIO's assistance

What I got out of your post was that you are training your customers to ask for roses by their names. And you are convincing your customers that Rio roses are good roses.

What is Rio doing for you? Is their Brand bringing in new customers to your store? Are they spending their time, which is money, to educate your customers? What are they giving your for the higher price you are paying for their product?

Yes, they do assist with the branding. As a market we have given away thousands of roses through radio campaign giveaways, single rose giveaways at food drives and at major sporting events. All of these events received major notice in the media and included all Rio Rose Partners who participated. They even send staff to help with the events. They also assist with educational programs locally and statewide. They provide us with postcards, posters, cooler signs, care tags, etc. to assist individual partners with promotion.

Who do the roses you're buying come from? Are they doing anything to assist you in marketing/selling those roses? My point being they are the only ones taking this approach and are challenging others to do so as well. The Rio concept doesn't work on it's own. If the wholesaler and retailer are just waiting for the Rio brand to catch on they will be disappointed. You have to work the program. You have to take an active part in the marketing process. Other than TF, FTD, & SAF no one else is offering me an opportunity to pool our resources to reach the consumers. I'm chosing to take my piece of the pie, believing Rio iws making the pie larger.

Excellent view. We are known for South American roses in our market area - we have taught our customers that.

We could just as well have trained them to ask for Angora Roses. That is up to us, not Rio or anyone else.

I just scanned it

But I must have missed the part about how they are referring the consumer to a florist...I did not see anything to indicate that.ll I saw was a consumer web site to order flowers.....are my eyes bad????I did like their mad o meter...

I read through a few pages, especially how to care for your roses. A florist was not mentioned on any of the pages just one blurb on the about us page stating "some florists use Rio Roses"....
The site to me looks completely consumer not "through a florist".

Remember, RIO is an order "generator" now...direct to consumer sales, with transmission thru FTD, at the normal discount with a rebate of 7% from RIO.

It's not in their best interest any longer to reffer consumers directly to the florist, cutting themselves out of the order process.

I'm still trying to figure out the difference between an order "generator" and an order "gatherer"...if anyone can tell me the difference I'd appreciate it.

The difference is simply which side of the 20% you are on. To Rio they "Generate" business. To me they "Gather" it. The result is we now have another whole segment of folks looking for flowers on the internet who will have their money divied up between the site owner (Rio), FTD, and the filling shop. Does anyone seriously think this will be "good" for the flower business? And does anyone seriously think that this kind of activity does not drive the price of flowers up?

FTD's lawsuit against ProFlowers looks ridiculous in the face of this outrageous behavior on the internet. Each and every page of these sites should state exactly what discounts come off each order before the filling florist gets paid. Let the consumers decide after they have all the information. That makes much more sense than worrying about how long flowers are stored before delivery. Proper storage can trump improper direct delivery any day. It's time consumers associations picked this one up and insisted that wire service discounts are declared at point of sale.

RIO - good or bad

I have been a rio partner since the beginning.

Up to this point it has helped our business, the roses are not always perfect, but we we haven't had to replace any. Our customers rave about our roses.

I am reserving judgement on the new program. I personally think it will be either really good (alot more high end sales and more national advertising ) or really bad (alot more drop shipping like proflowers).

The simple fact of the world today is that everything is about branding, in the beginning I believed in the FTD brand, but FTD missed the boat.

The Teleflora brand just can't seem to catch on with consumers.

I attribute most my success in this industry to zigging when everyone else zags.

my humble opinion, please value accordingly

To me, RIOROSES.COM looks like an ordergatherer site, it smells like it's going to be an ordergatherer site, it feels like an ordergatherer site. so it must be an ordergatherer site.

They are working on builing a Brand, their brand. And they want to use the money you are getting from the your florist brand to build the Rio Brand.

It looks like FTD.COM all over again.

miami ...perfect duck weather

6 roses 34.95
dozen boxed 49.95
dozen arranged 59.95
those were about the prices on the pull down on the pinky rose.
Where are the 75.00 dozen roses Rio said they would be selling?
Is that what a dozen costs with shipping, handling, fuel surcharge, box charge, wire service fees etc?
quack quack quack

Haunted Garden

Yes, I especially like the Haunted Garden with Red orange TULIPS in the fall, Orange mini gerbs, baby orange roses <wonder how many florists ordered those in their mixed Rio box?> along with purple larkspur and statice. Always like that extra line at the bottom of the screen - Glass vase included. Yep, these pictures are just what the doctor ordered for the ailing florists looking for orders.

An OG is an OG. Call it whatever you want. It is still an OG.

You should see the "design" workbook.... and that's my only comment.

Sorry, Victoria...

I'll have to pass on the design book. You know how I am with numbers. Just calculated that lovely orange arrangement listed at $69.99 and figure the florist actually gets paid $55.21 after all the dust clears including local delivery. Yep, they sure are trying to help the florist. Oh, by the way, please tell me the design book was FREE!
