Nothing, IMHO, screams more about the poor value of WS offerings than this design of pathetic, overpriced junk...

http://deansflowers.ns.ca/Everyday mixed bouquet.htm

$59.95 for two roses, couple carns and daisies and filler in a 4in bowl??? Who can fill this and still sleep at night? For the life of me I don't know how you all do it...

Please, stop destroying us!

That ain't the wire service's fault. I have the same arrangement on my site for $37.95 and it is very popular, one of the best sellers. For whatever reason they have priced it differently than me. But it's a very nice arrangement, long lasting and pretty, just what consumers want. And that is "how we all do it".

I went there thinking I was going to find a self shot crappy arrangement but actually found one of the wire services better offerings, just priced high. So pricing I would question but not design.

opinions vary I guess...

oops! and now seeing it is in Canadian $$$ that's a whole different story. I think you got your wire service blinders a bit too tight, Mark, just like I wear my George Bush ones.

Pretty bold, calling this "abuse." What would your price be? Honestly count every stem in that picture. Also, remember this price is Canadian dollars, not USD.

Our Canadian price would be about $45 based on the picture, without looking at the WS recipe. This is also a town on the extreme east coast that will have slightly higher product and freight charges than someone in Florida.

Ryan

The suggested CANADIAN price for this arr from teleflora is around $50.00

THere is no bow, but the recipe says gabera daisie.
Again if you would have check the location, they are in Nova Scotia. A lot of their flowers come from a province away or even 3 when they get it from Ontario. They are either flown in to Nova Scotia or Trucked over and takes over 24 hours. There is also monte casino, alstro, gebera daisies, roses, carns solidago greenery and container.
I sell mine at $50.00
I think he is in the price range to match any Canadian florist.

Well...ok I'll give you the Canadian dollar point..I did not notice that so that takes some of the wind out of my sail. We would probably charge about 29.95 for 2 roses in a 4-in green plastic bowl.

UPDATE: Ran a currency converter...

59.95 CAD
Canada Dollars = 51.4248 USD
United States Dollars
1 CAD = 0.857795 USD 1 USD = 1.16578 CAD

$51.42 for THAT??? I *still* stand by assessment. Anyone who fills that should have their "Real Florist" baubles removed IMMEDIATLY!

UPDATE #2: Again, in the interest if FC fairness, I did look a little deeper into the arrangement and saw some pricier flowers. This would be 34.95

We would gladly fill that. And we would upgrade it. It is a very pretty nice long lasting arrangement we would be proud to put our name on...

What Ryan said. :)

To be fair, I hate the design style ... around that price point I'd much rather see this:

Again, what Ryan said, and showed. I really don't like that stuffed look... haven't liked it for years. I have found most people prefer the lighter, more modern feel in design... and they don't mind paying for it. Style over stuffed..

12Bucks,
You need to get a lower horse. It's been pointed out to you politely (the Canadian way) here that others think your comments are not acceptable.

I personally don't particularly like the arrangement but I don't feel there's anything wrong with it either. Every area is different and this arrangement is just a safe standby, I guess.

The price is right on when you factor in several things. First of all IF a wire order from FTD or a US florist were involved then after considering the exchange Dean's would have to deduct 18% (as dictated by Revenue Canada) to account for the tax they would have to remit and then the delivery.
Even if it were a consumer ordering directly the price is fair; they are in Nova Scotia and since most flowers now originate in SA, are trucked through the US to Canada (usually Toronto or Montreal areas) and then reshipped via air, the costs to us here in Eastern Canada are considerably higher thus you should expect to pay more. I know Dean's and have sent many orders there over the years; they do good work and are a busy, popular shop.

Just my 2 cents worth............

It's been the #1 selling arrangement on our web site for a few years now. What does that tell you?

I'm in agreement here with Bush-Bashing BLOOMZ (amazing, huh)
But he's right - I'd would fill it and upgrade it. Granted, it's not our deisgn style (was maybe 20 years ago), but if it came to us TEL, I'd fill it as pictured.

Really,

I think you overshot the target on this one, man... Be careful who's site you point to with critical comments...I don't know this florist, but I'd be TO'd if you did this to me... We've been REAL as REAL can get - and fill orders like this on a DAILY basis. You MUST also remember: NEVER underestimate the poor taste of the consumer. Yea, you may not like it, but someone DOES. And, even better, if the RECIP likes it...

Right...how dare I question you "established guys"...all you have managed to do over the past 3 years is lose about 5-6% of the market with your "consumer-orientated" pricing (sarcasm emphasized).

Over and over the studies show consumers think florist overpriced, but when I bring up an example (and I'll admit, perhaps this wasn't the best one), everyone plays "**** ** *****" (EDITED: poor choice of words) on my post. Fine..."business-as-usual"...maybe we can break that 10%-decline mark this year!!

OK folks...sarcasm off please...we're all in this together...

I think florists are beginning to lose THEIR market share worldwide...

The survey reflects that more than 60% of Beijing citizens buy flowers in flower markets; florists and booths in the streets are their second choices.[/QOUTE]
