I'm curious if the sharpest drops are from affiliates of the same company. IMO FTD is still experience a negative residual effect from the Valentine's Day tech meltdown and 1-800 is promoting the heck out of the drop-ship 30 tulips for $30. I see TF's ads all over the place (busses, bus stops) but their holiday product price points are well above the average of competing services.

We've seen a slight decrease in incomings, but don't fill many in the first place. Outgoings are holding steady so far.

Can't answer this because our totals would be skewed, we kicked two services to the curb since last year.

I am up by 10 with bloomnet(first in book, but all are coming from hdqtrs)
and down by 6 with TF(2nd placement in book)

Survey

14 votes so far and some interesting trends.

If you have your incoming wire numbers handy, please vote!
FC has members of all different sizes in volume....would not this survey have more relevance if it was based on the percentage up/down vs. the count? Maybe not....just a thought.

OK... down 36.1% here...as of today

% can be just as skewed - Look at Eric's numbers from an earlier post: Down to 1 from 2 - a 50% reduction :)

Checked with a friend of mine, he is down in wire in orders, worried about selling his containers. Small shop, but the only one in his neck of the woods.

WI down 12% (100+ orders) ~ WO up 11% (250+ orders). Survey would also be more accurate through 12/31. December's a big month for us ~ in and out.

WO up -
same date range as W-ins - 2006 - 8 orders
same date range 2007 - 22 orders.

Hmmm.

Randy,
What are your outgoing and incoming numbers looking like?

Frank,

Our outgoing are down about 12% right now. This is because of three reasons.

1) Our outgoing wires have been on the decline for several years.
2) We have some group orders that have not gone out yet.
3) We now are delivering orders to Columbus, which last year we wired.

Our incomings are down 86%. Incoming have been on a more rapid decline over the past few years. I believe much of this has to do with the shift of orders being sent from florists to order being sent by order gatherers. We don't carry any wire service items, and we have made it known we don't really want incoming orders. But an 85% drop this year is really surprising to me. We rarely ever decline an order, yet we've only received 6 so far this month. It indicates to me that the wire business is on a rapid decline.

Randy,
Do you think part of the drop in wire-ins orders to some flower shops has any thing to do with florists being in debt to the wire services. I know of two TF florists here in Houston that are recieving lots of wire-in orders...they also are deeply in debt to TF and closed their B & M flower shop and are filling the orders out of their garage.

I know, wire services swear they don't direct wire-in orders, but I have heard too many florists talk about how the wire service helped them with the pay back of debt by sending more orders...
