Randy,
Do you think part of the drop in wire-ins orders to some flower shops has any thing to do with florists being in debt to the wire services. I know of two TF florists here in Houston that are recieving lots of wire-in orders...they also are deeply in debt to TF and closed their B & M flower shop and are filling the orders out of their garage.

I know, wire services swear they don't direct wire-in orders, but I have heard too many florists talk about how the wire service helped them with the pay back of debt by sending more orders...

.

MaryLou, I know that is true, they do direct to recoup their monies. This was told to me by headquarters quite a few years ago about a shop in our town. She was coming to me to try to get the containers to fill the orders.

Randy, I was going to try and extrapolate some "national number" from the poll results, but I think your 2MM is probably close or maybe even under.

And if we assume it's close, that would lead one to believe that in 5 years, adjusted for increased decline (as consumers become more aware) that the wire volume will hit rock bottom, and the wires will be a faint memory.

Time will tell...but I think the trend will continue.

We had 0 WS orders last Christmas because we were WS free. We have had 0 WS orders this Christmas, and we have rejoined TF (for a while anyway). We are listed first for our town, and we are the only florist in our town (actually a community). I didn't vote because there was no catagory that fit our situation.

FYI, I just talked to my FTD rep and orders are indeed down for early December, across the country.

I am up on incoming orders for the period. 1/2 the increase was one florist who gave me multiple items. FTD was down 12 %. I am seeing that more florist are sending teleflora over FTD. Orders from teleflora.com have increased over last year. I am not Bloomlink.

Okay

2007 Incoming 1
2006 Incoming 3

2007 Out 17
2006 Out 15

What does it mean. I don't have a clue.
Total sales our down 13%

I am rubbing the crystall ball at this point and it just keeps flash an 8 ball.

I did break down and buy the kincade thingy since I had customer that called and asked for 6 of them. So i figured what the heck. ordered them on Monday and recieved them today.

OG's are trying hard to send orders are way. Way below minimum and are skiming. So they get kicked to the curb and so far I have rejected 20 this week. Every wire out has always been at TF.com price plus the florist delivery fee that they are codified for and our $6 wire fee.

Usually the first thing we ask is what zip code and right away letting the customer know what are minimums by filling florist in the sending zip code and required delivery fees. I say 75% of them are going ahead and letting us take care of it since they know we will guarantee their order at this point. Average wire out order is way up and is close to our own store average.

The practice of recomending calling direct is getting peoples attention and most will reply by saying they will call us for local orders for sure!

How are you incoming wire orders compared to last year?

RC

Well call me stupid, Randy.

I looked at this poll and thought your were asking for the month of Dec v the year. So my vote of being 1-5 down for the year is in error.

After reading it a second time (with my good eye this time) I can honestly answer and say I don't know about the numbers, which in my mind is secondary to the dollar amount. For the year, incoming is down around $20-$25K. Outgoing is outpacing incoming, on a gross dollar basis.

The local stuff is pretty good, but the WS ins suck. I could easily handle a little more discounted bus to offset my fixed costs of doing business. You know what I speak of. Those are costs that don't go away if you close your doors.

Ah, I read the wrong part of my computer statement. I thought it said we were up 24 wire orders from last year, so I voted tha. Then I realized I read the wrong line, we are up 3 orders.

Our acutal sales are down tons :D but that is because we closed our downtown store and so it is producing no sales for obvious reasons.

I change your vote for ya....hope you don't mind!

Our numbers are still way down Last year 82 in 13 out...(we've always been big IN numbers on holidays)
This year, 4 in so far and if Teleflora keeps letting those people from away who can't speak English try to send us phone orders, they are going to keep getting "We can't fill that for you". Can't tell us what they want? We can't fill. They are working their way up to the top of the "despised" list :faint:

Rhonda's post makes me think...Are all of you who are down in wire-ins, down naturally or because of rejects and can't fill for that amount???

My tallly ("even") does not include the 2 which I just rejected today from TF. They were for the "Gifts of Christmas," --and we could be free to subsitute container or flowers--shown on www.flowerclub.com TF person wanted us to fill & deliver for $30 each. Their site shows it advertised for $29.99 +12.99 service charge. It took forever for me to get even the website from her so that I could look it up.
