Just an undate and this may be my final act as a florist because I've had enough. I have printed out copies from SuperPages with all the bogus addresses from aahflowers.com from all over the state of Illinois. I am making copies with WHOIS, other paperwork and sending packages to FTD, TF, FTC and hand delivering copies to my U.S. Senator. I doubt it will have any impact, but I will feel better to get just 1 OG laid to rest for a short time.

Mike Soenen is a very good personal friend of mine and has been for many years and it's all about the $$$$$$$$ and you don't give a s*** about real florists who go home with aching feet, legs and cuts on our hands. Sorry, Mike, but you and I both know it and that's why I'm getting out of the floral industry. Design is something I love and I'm not bad at it, but this is MY final straw. If it wasn't, I would spend my money to form a class action law suit, but like all of you, we don't make enough. It's sad to see an industry like ours in such a dire need of just a dozen of so lawyers to fight for what's right...not for money. (NEVER HAPPEN! lol)
Someday, and I probably won't see it, there aren't going to be the wire services or the OG's because there won't be any real florist to feed their orders to fill. There will always be florists and @@@@ good ones that take care of their customers by calling another florist direct for 100% of the order, but it's not going to happen anytime soon because we too are greedy, but too stupid to see the writing on the wall. I admit it, I too am stupid for going along with the flow, making excuses that I'm too busy to make any changes in the way I do business. My excuse days are over and hopefully by Feb 1st I will be gone, working in another industry with their own problems, but I can work 9 -5 and go home and not worry about the worries I have today.

Carol,
Wow! I was shocked and saddened to read your message. This industry sure does make us crazy. I know just how you feel. I have to give you credit, if you're gonna get out...do it before Valentine's Day! I think it is wonderful that as your final bow as a florist you are taking the time to fight the good fight of deceptive advertising. You go, girl!!! Sometimes you just have to stand up for what you believe in! I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Please post info about what you plan to do in the future. Blessings to you today and always.

Funny, I just read an article about how censorship is alive and well in Afghanistan... apparently it's thriving at Super pages as well.

My first draft in the review I wrote had the word "crapshoot" in it (referring to ordering flowers on the web). I had to change the word. Certainly wouldn't want to offend the sensibilities of the reading public. ;) Dear knows the purpose is not to educate in any way shape or form...

The point of yellow pages and SuperPages is not to present accurate business information to consumers. They are ad vehicles, pure and simple. Their sole purpose is to make money for the publisher, period.

Flowers with Gifted Elegance is Wire Service Free!

hmmmmm.....

True, but I can still dream that it can be fixed can't I?

Now that Google has moved some of their offices and search functions to Ann Arbor MI, I hope to get a contingent of florists an appointment to at least discuss the state of affairs with Google.

Not that it will change anything, again it comes down to ethics... do they want to make another billion, or do they want to generate accurate SERP's, and/or maybe both?

"I have a dream!"

Sorry Boss, I modified your statement a little to reflect another dream...

wire services

I pulled the plug and it mattered to me, cuz I felt better! It gives them less real shops to fill orders.
I agree, it is all so frustrating - wire service - no wire service- machine on/off-..after reading so many heart wrenching emotional posts on the subject, it only reinforces my decision Jan 1 to end my relationship with 800flowers. I think the wire services are the biggest order gatherers out there. I have no idea if I'll actually make it through the end of the year without them but I really do feel better, both physically and mentally. I may miss out on a few 100 orders but the real customers will get so much more, so we'll see.

I sent my registered letter to Teleflora to quit, which they have elected to ignore, but then I started a Google Adwords account which seems to have a small but positive effect. I only set the limit for $30 a month and my ad is showing up with all the 1800 and order gatherer sites that say "local florist in Minneapolis". One of my ads says "not a clearinghouse, not FTD or Teleflora." Its hard to get a website presense and most of the Google ads are all OGs buts its fun to finally show up right there with them. Keep'n it real. I'm so new at this (going on 6th months) that I don't really know what I'm doing but after going over my WS statements, I realized it was an more of an expense than profit and the only orders we ever had problems with were WS orders so the plug is pulled. I still have nightmares, like last night when I dreamed I ordered 12,000 roses for Valentines day. Geez...:beer
