At least that's not boring. Probably in his world (is he a fashion designer? - I'm not sure...), a boring design is far worse than an ugly design. Look how many responses this thread has attracted so far.

The only complaint I have is the design is anatomically incorrect. It doesn't have gill, dorsal fin, etc.

My non-florist husband walked past me while i was gazing upon the "about to be flushed dead gold fish" and he said.. eww that looks tacky....:dunno:

I think that one qualifies for a throw back.

More Info = Todd Oldham began his career creating designer t-shirts BTW. - A former boyfriend of mine loved his shirts - would spend upwards of 70 dollars for a t-shirt. Now, He's branched out into other design media and put his name to quite a number of things including flowers. If any of you watched the Bravo TV show - TOP DESIGN - He was the host for the show that featured a competition of Interior Decoraters and Designers.

Ah, yes, the Todd Oldham fashions of the 90's. I saved up for months to buy two of the long sleeved tees at Saks my senior year of high school. I was, and still very much am, a clothes horse. Funny how I could afford those things in high school but not now ;)

PS - Fab fashion designer or not I think he sucks as a floral designer :>

What a beautiful piece of Cracker Artistry!!!

OMG, but don't you know the wire services have the best designers in the world and no one can possibly make better arrangements or take better pictures. :poke: :>

I don't think they've recovered from that Cathy whatsername packing her tools and shiznit and going home.

That thing needs to be flushed down the dunny......

any respect for Todd Oldham should be flushed with that fish!!

OH my GOD!!!

I'm over here laughing so hard I'm crying!! You guys are so dam* funny!!

This has got to be the funniest thread ever.

I can't believe it's not a joke. seriously!

Thanks for the laugh, especially loved the gold fish cracker!

Use it for garden fertilizer

Even up here in "Fishing Heaven" of the U.P., this is BUTT UGLY! Does it smell as it goes bad, too? Like a rotting fish on the beach..... use it for fertilizer!

That's a cracker LJVF lol, love the visual!!!

I see nothing has changed with the North American WS gimmicks-so-called-arrangements over the last few years, when are the WS's going to actually focus on selling FLOWERS?????

That is the most hideous thing I have ever seen!!!! Beats some of the mentions in another thread I don't wish to recall but remember very well. I hope none of you decide to stock this 'classy' piece of ...:kloguck:...where it belongs. Just another gimmick....

I think everyone is missing the point. This arrangement is not meant to be a beautiful floral craft. I don't think he was asked to produce a floral masterpiece, the task which he is obviously unfit for.

I think his job at FTD is probably (I'm just guessing) to create a product line that could appeal to the consumers who are currently NOT buying flowers. This guy knows how to sell fashions to someone who shouldn't be buying designers' clothes. Remember that?

It also reminds me of Scion xB. When it was first introduced here in the US, I definitely remember that many car "experts" swore that this "ugly" piece of sh*t would never sell in America. They turned to be very wrong.

There must be something in this "ugly" arrangement that Todd Oldham believes could appeal to potential flower buyers. Personally, I still don't see it (that's why I'm not a fashion designer). But I don't dismiss it just because I don't see it.

Goldfish, you may be right, but a novelty has no staying power. It's a flash, it's possibly trendy (like that gawd awful singing fish) but won't last. Seems to me, with these current economic times, working hard to ask the consumer to part with hard earned dollars, the quality of the product should at least be that... quality.

Half of the funny part for me was the Floral Artistry description Goldie.

I bet you like it cuz of your screen name here.

it's just flat out gross. No getting around it.

And the floral artisty part is what makes it even funnier.

No one will want that, it's stupid and ugly and for petes sake, couldn't he have at least used a brown button mum for the eye!

not only is it ugly but it it has YELLOW EYES!!!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD...YELLOW EYES!!!

Ugh,

That's worse than the "coming out bouquet" of last year. Gross. How kitsch can you get?! I'm all for the cute-sy novelty designs but this, my friends, aint it!

I seriously bursted out in laughter when I read "floral art". Puh-lease. Quick!! Someone send FTD this image:

from our very own izabetho!

THAT'S FLORAL ART!

Wow!!!! THAT IS AWESOME!!!! I'm blown away!!!

All joking aside, I think goldfish makes a point.

Devils advocate:

When I looked at this fish standing alone, my first reaction is "huh, what was he thinking?" But when I look at the collection as a whole, it puts this silly fish into a better perspective. It appears that he tried to interpret many favorite American summer pass times into flowers and containers. Ice cream cones, picnic tables, watering cans, fourth of July, are inspirations for his collection. The arrangements are not necessarily intended for traditional occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc... , but rather summer themed parties or creating a summer feel for the home. Sometimes things in general are "ugly" unless put into a certain context. For example, a football shaped arrangement may look ridiculous out of context, but when displayed for a Super Bowl party, it makes more sense.

With that said, I still think it looks like a goldfish cracker.
