Lori - in short, if you're using the dried pods as accessories, they're fine. If they overwhelm the roses, they're not.
My one bit of advice on using lotus pods is that their dark color can make them difficult to photograph and without good lighting (or a deft hand with PhotoShop) the pods can almost disappear. Try using a light touch of DM Dove Gray on them if your first few photos mostly show dark voids where the pods are supposed to be.
