FC Biggest Loser Challenge

During Christmas I felt like such a drug addict. Literally. I ate some sugar and then ate some more and then even more and the WHOLE time telling myself "What the hell are you doing." but I just felt so out of control and at the same time excited to be eating the crap. How sick is that?!
Even sicker- I think I'm having "withdrawls" I feel light headed and kind of sick since I've layed off the sugar... maybe I'm just getting sick, man I hope not!

Change is hard and sticking to it is harder. Good luck everybody.

Sounds like classic sugar addiction. And that isn't just table sugar, it is ANY complex carbohydrate. I did find through all of my years of dieting that I had to change my habits for life, not just the duration of the diet. That does not mean you say good-bye to every food you enjoy, it just means that you balance everything out. I have a sugar addiction, mine is in starches. I absolutely LOVE bread, pasta, any starchy carb. So, I changed the kind of bread and pasta I buy.

Sarah Jane, that's a great tip about the spaghetti squash, I was actually raised with that. In fact, we grew ALL of our own vegetables.

Shannon ~ GREAT point about the different meats and their fat and calories. I love prime rib, but it's like 100 calories per ounce ~ Yikes~! I still have it as a treat, but only once a month or less.

Johan, wonderful info about the thyroid. This stupid little gland controls ALL hormones. I thought I had a low metabolism but you've got me beat by a long shot. After I finished my weight loss and started the maintenance portion, I was put on I think 1800-2000 calories per day. Unfortunately, I only burn about 1600. So, I started putting weight on again. I went and had my resting metabolism measured, my body at rest burns 1300. So once I cut myself back to 1600, everything remains the same.

Speaking of calories, it's good to have an approximate idea of how many calories you should be eating daily. The heavier you are, the more you need. I started out at 1500 calories. I am just shy of 5'9", and weighed 225. My original goal was 165lb so at 195lb, I went to 1200. (In my "after" picture, I weighed 145lb). Men need more calories because they tend to burn more simply because of muscles so this is NOT a guide for guys, only gals.

Checking in with my long-overdue pic and stats.

Two days ago, the Wii said I was 222 lbs, up ~9 lbs from the end of September (just before Canadian Thanksgiving).

I don't think I did too badly with holiday eating, but I did have pizza and/or fried food daily for three weeks in December. I had lots of excuses, but in the end just didn't take care of business.

During that time we had a visitor from Australia who stayed with us for 5 weeks (was supposed to be 1 week, but kept extending). My treadmill is right outside the guest room, so I didn't exercise much during that time.

My ideal weight would be around 180 lbs, though I haven't been near that since I started working for FTD in '06. I never got the road weight off, and haven't been back to the gym since.

I'm attaching a pic from the Decemer 2010 open house at Martin's that was published in the local paper. I hate the picture so much that I've sworn off silly sugar (chocolates, pastries, etc) that are a BIG weakness.

I plan on being much more presentable by the time I speak at the Michigan conference in March. Besides, I can't have Rick getting all skinny and making me look even bigger!

I've been so good all week, I don't think I'll mind weighing this Sunday.

I've been having mostly salads, with fat free dressing, maybe some grilled chicken on it, no cheese, no croutons. I also made a big pot of veg.soup this week, so I've been alternating between the two. This has cut out a lot of meat that I would usually have, so I'll be able to see what a difference that will make.

I've also been trying to cut out snacks, except for a piece of fruit on the commute home. That part has been difficult, but I've done well so far, I think it's more of a habit thing than actually being hungry.

Do you find that a lot of your eating is habit over hunger? I do, now that I stop and think about it.

I definately eat from habit and/or boredom. I've done well this week, but I still haven't added the exercise I should be doing. My weigh in day is Monday and so I'll see how I did then. UGH I hate exercize (or at least mindless treadmill ) much prefer a hike in the woods with my dog but with 2 feet of snow that's more than I can handle. Maybe I should get snow shoes!

Hey- don't cut out protein!!!

protein builds muscles- muscles burn fat. muscles building builds up your metabolisum. Better Metabolisum (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong!) is better energy- more energy means you move more- you move more you burn fat you burn fat yu lose weight....

you lose more weight if you make sure to eat your protein! Just eat the right portion!! 3oz is plenty at any meal. and you do not have to eat meat to get it.

BTW- I hate exercize. That is my downfall just as bad as sugar. I work hard at work and when I go home I want to veg, but end up doing more work for the store and then want to veg and not exercize.

I do like to go swimming though. If we get the house I'm so buying a swimming pool!!! OR maybe a swim spa! OOooooooo.

What Shannon said is right, do not cut out protein, get it in lean meats, eggs, and cheese. Also, Peggy, don't cut out snacks. Are you doing 6 mini meals? You don't want to ever feel like you are being deprived, it will make you want something all the more.

As for exercise - GO DANCING!!! Fun, does not feel like you are working. Just drink charged water instead of beer!

I only like to dance at weddings and act like a total jackass. Donnie and I can put on quite a show!

Happy to say I'm down 6 lbs since my last weigh-in 5 days ago.

My sister-in-law hooked me up with www.myfitnesspal.com, which is a free calorie and exercise tracker. It sets expectations based on your age, height, weight, lifestyle and exercise. I've found it to be really handy for tracking food intake and totalling calories over a day. This one also has a much larger food database than other programs we've seen.

Well, I am back from Ecuador and ready to diet, There is nothing like having you picture taken often from all angles and watching the pictures on a big screen during a slideshow to really realize that 60 lbs. does make a short person obese. Just to let you know Quito's altitude of 9400 feet seemed to eliminate most of my rather huge appetite. Between being not hungry, the very healthy meals provided by Ramiro and Salome, and walking through the farms and on tours caused me to lose weight in Quito, aboard ship at sea level was a different story. Three large meals aday with dessert, the only thing that saved me was the exercise on the walking tours on the Islands. I actually climbed to the top of a small volcano(around 470 ft) using wooden steps and walkways, They count 375 steps but I don't think they account for al the ramps on an incline. But I made it huffing and puffing.

Anyway I want to weigh in at 184.50 lbs, want to lose 60 lbs, will probably use a strict Adkins diet at first, limiting my diet to 20 grams of healthy carbs a day. I lost 50 lbs the last time over a six month period and while I don't expect to lose this weight as fast, I will lose it.

Here are pictures taken on the trip to demonstrate.

Monday morning weigh in...

ugh- only lost 2.5 last week.

So my new goal for me right now is to weigh no more than 220 by Easter which is at the end of April this year. my BIG goal is to weigh 199 or less by Easter.

It has been very hard to be on a diet the past 15 days. My sister was here with us and she eats constantly- Which make me want to join her. Even my hubby pointed out my pattern.
Hubby and I got in a big fight because he told me about 2 weeks ago how when sissy is around I do this. I got so pissed off. But he's right and now I really see it.
So last night after doing the math and figuring out when Easter is I had a talk with him and told him that if he sees me eating more than I should or things that I shouldn't to tell me, even if I get mad and start yelling at him and I thow a fit- no matter what- he needs to keep me in check. If I start yelling I told him to scream and yell louder and make me stop.
This should be interesting to see if I can keep myself in check and not need the enforcement!

But hey after all that smack talk- I gotta do something! :)

Hey Shannon, I only lost 2.5 last week, too. Ofcourse that is supposed to be the healthy way to lose, but it still stinks. I had a b-day to celebrate so I blame the cake. Atleast I only had one piece which is good for me. My goal is to lose 50 lbs by my niece's wedding end of July. That is only about 2 lbs a week so I'm trying to be satisfied with that. Anything more will be a bonus. I need to lose 75 lbs all told, but that will take time.

When I weighed yesterday, I was down 2 1/2 pounds for the week. I had gone ahead and weighed a few days before that, on Wed. and had found that I had lost 3 1/2, so somewhere between Wed. and Sun. I had gained a pound. I hadn't really gone over the points I should have in Weight Watchers, but my back went out on Friday and I didn't move much from the couch since then. Chiropractor tomorrow, so I'm optimistic!

Ryan, your weight loss is remarkable, how are you doing it? Any specific exercises or diet?
I have a food and exercise tracker with Weight Watchers, nothing that I can add to a signature line like yours, which is really cool by the way, but it works well with this diet.
