Makes the best toast!

Just wanted to throw that out there...

Happy New Year!

Proflowers sells bread now, too? Man, take a week off and look how the world changes.

For some reason, my wife is vehemently opposed to frozen bread. I'm not sure, it might be a religous thing.

She only made mac and cheese once (yeah, it's American cuisine), but like everything she makes it was fantastic. (FOUR different kinds of cheese :p)

Crunchy on top (from parmesiano reggiano cheese and breadcrumbs) creamy middle (Velveta and Cheddar mixed in a roux of butter, cream and flour) and a little cayanne pepper, white pepper and tobasco for zip.
Now that sounds like it could beat Dad's.... got a script to share?

HAH !!!! - Got all ya'll beat - I cooked some MEAN Collard Greens, Blackeye Peas, Fried Chicken, and Banana Pudding for New Years Dinner last night.

I started the greens in my slow cooker with a hefty chunk of hambone.......let'em cook down real slow.......makes them soooooooooo tender.
For my banana pudding, I use a secret ingredient......called white chocolate.

Rick, I'm so sorry! My invitation must have gotten lost in the mail! lol

I don't like mac and cheese.

V

I didn't either for years and years, but I've come to like some folks' who load the dish with cheese(s).

@@@@ it, now I have to make mac and cheese...

I make mine like big ted...

a white sauce with velvetta and cheddar, sometimes a hint of shallot and grey poupon to give it some zing...

I may add other cheeses as well...

then topped with a buttered bread crump or ritz cracker topping...

Hey have any of you had fried mac and cheese squares...it is a great way to use left over mac and cheese if there is any left over....follow link for alton brown's recipe...it is like heaven and so good for you(as you sit and feel arteries clog)

Thanks Lori for posting a link to a recipe!!!! I was reading this thread drooling all over my desk (and it's 10am).

My kids only like that Kraft crap...and I just can't seem to choke down another box of powdered cheese!

If anyone else had a recipe they would like to share (hint, hint) I would be most appreciative!!!!

Boss, I have to go with apricot preserves.

Palms, what the heck is cottage pie?????

I don't like Cottage pie or Shepherd's pie either. But then I don't eat red meat... in truth I don't eat much of any kind of meat anymore.

Mac and cheese.... nope, maybe it's the consistency, who knows. It looks nice (the real kind) but when it gets in my mouth.... not so much.

V (I don't like stew either)

Cottage pie
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cottage Pie with minced beefCottage pie is a traditional English method for using leftover roasted beef or beef mince, which is minced and cooked as a pie using mashed potato as a crust. Shepherds' Pie is a similar dish but uses lamb or mutton as the meat ingredient.

In early recipes, the pie dish was lined with mashed potato as well as having a mashed potato crust on top.[1][2]

The term "cottage pie" is known to have been in use by 1791 but it is not known to what type of dish it then referred[3]. The terms "cottage pie" and "shepherds' pie" appeared in recipe books during the late part of the 19th century[1][2]. From that time, the terms have been used interchangeably, regardless of whether beef or mutton is used[4][5][6], although there is now a popular tendency for "shepherds' pie" to be used when the meat is mutton or lamb.

[edit] Variations
Cottage pie is available in Australia as a variation of the Australian meat pie with a layer of mashed potato replacing the usual pastry crust. This variant is also known and labelled as a potato pie or, in New Zealand, a potato top pie.[citation needed]
In North America, a similar dish is called Chinese pie or cowboy pie.
In France, a similar dish is called hachis Parmentier.

Amy, I was wondering when someone would ask about the cottage thing lol.

I call them both cottage pie (i am wrong btw), basically fry lean mince with onion and a gravy sauce. Put it in a ovenproof dish with some mash potato on top and then grate cheese over the top. Put in the oven for 30 mins to brown the top. Serve with carrots and peas. Heaven in a dish...

Mac and Cheese, Cheese and Mac, i like it but dont rave for it. Might try to make some though for a change.

Boss i love the snausages but they are way to fatty, only on special occasions like pastry...

WTh is mince girl? I have had mincemeat pies as a kid but they were sweet and I don't think with any onions....same thing as "bangers and mash" sounds like bad kids hanging out on street corners lol
you need that trip to florida just to cook for us...lol

Ha ha, mince is just beef put through a mincer, do you not have it over there. I am shocked. Wait and i will be right back with a picture.

Ok i have attached a picture of a cottage pie and also some mince. Hope this sheds some light.

It is so mad that we share the same language yet some things are so foreign between us. I would love to do that visit Sher but as the lottery ticket has not come up yet, will have to wait a little longer :(

Yum! Mom could make the best Shepard's Pie, but she make it like Cottage Pie with that top crust of mashed potatoes. She would add peas to the meat sometimes.

She cannot cook much anymore. She's losing her memory of how to cook many of her favorite recipes, of which I miss her pecan pie most.

This thread is so much fun!

Palms, you are priceless! I think that what you call minced meat, we call ground meat.
