Most of FTDs achivements over the years were the result of Florist draging other Florists into the 20th century

Sence the buyout. most have been dragged through the mud. After having been relieved of their valuables..

Flowers That Die from your local FTD Supermarket. Where the product is only as good as the bagger at the checkout.

Does Brown Bag School have final exams? Or is there a no fail policy?

Yes....BUT

It's gotta start somewhere I have 2 days of meetins in DG in a week... things are chnaging... just ya wait an see... takes time...

Wasn't FTD the also:
1) The first to compete directly with us for the consumers? USing our membership dollars?

2) The first to switch customers away from floral products to drop and direct ship items?

3) The first to go about acquiring other order gatherers? Again, using $$$ from membership dues.

4) The first to create a bogus QA fee that means nothing, but adds 45% to membership dues?

5) The first to "loose" the find a florist link off FTD.con at every major holiday?

6) The first to close their Canadian office?

7) The first to come desparately scurrying back with empty promises every time their membership drops below 8,000?

8) The first to leave Canada virtually unrepresented for years at a time?

9) The first to have hold times upwards of 45 minutes when calling tech support or HQ?

10) The first to sign up supermarkets?

11) The first to stick the all-so-precious logo in Walgreens?

Sure seems that way....

The positive FIRSTS and negative FIRSTS don't offset each other!!
Those are all facts that can and are being applied to MANY multinational companies in this day and age!
There was NOBODY more upset than I, when FTD shut it's Canadian offices. I still, once in a while, have a chat with Gary MacGregor, and Alan Shimozawa, and we "reminice" over the good old days.
Maybe some time in the future, THESE will be the "good old days"..where there IS STILL, some semblance of "order" in our industry, BUT, AFS was responsible for "rebates", TF was responsible for MILLIONS of FTD dollars being spent, "forcing" their way onto the Mercury system, and TF was FIRST, in buying out "competing" wire services for their technology, because they couldn't do it on their own.
FTD makes MONEY...Teleflora DOES NOT!
FTD is GROWING...Teleflora is CLOSING the Franklin Mint
FTD Mercury is cutting edge and internet based, Teleflora and Dove is dial up on YOUR phone line.
FTD has learned from it's mistakes...Teleflora is making those very same mistakes NOW!
FTD PAYS it's bills, either immediately, or when we bill them.... Teleflora STILL OWES US!
FTD offers conventions and conferences, Teleflora DOES NOT.
FTD offers "free" memberships as "incentives" ( don't start on the quality issue ), Teleflora offered "free" computers, then CHARGED you for them.
FTD has a GREAT Canadian FBC team, Teleflora has a GREAT FBC team, made up of EX-FTD reps.

Mike

If FTD is so great then why is the "Great TF FBC team" made up of EX FTD employees.?
Of course this whole thread is very much like the Republican versus the Democrat issue. The other side is always wrong regardless of the actual facts...

Puke on all of you cheerleaders! You remember Lucy holding the football......? an' good old Charlie, taking another failed kick???? What did FTD promise you, Mikey? That you would be the first to know all the news????
I really thought that you would see the light and it is not a guy in yellow tights. It is direct calls by customers to you. No MIDDLEMEN need apply!!

Do you really need those containers, those gifts that compete for YOUR floral stuff??? I do not THINK so.

Why are you so attacted to them? This whole thing with any WS has never made one LITTLE bit of sense to me. It must be something that all florist have smelled for so many years. I came from another busness and this WS racket is the dumbest thing I have ever seen.

You know you all who still "believe" need to do a reality check. When you wake up from sleep (deams), sane people do a "reality check" and know that they were dreamin'.

How can adults be so taken in???? It is the creative gene??? Use you business genes!

That all folks!

According to Tom Butler at Teleflora (before he was at AFS and prior to that FTD) says on page 22 of the Canadian current directory the following:

"-Teleflora opened their first Canadian office in 1978, and is today the only wire service that has a full-staffed office in Canada, catering to the needs of the Canadian Florist."

Tom is telling a TALL TALE or doesn't know the difference.

Blossoms Network Floral Services has offices in Canada and is the only Wire Service in Canada with it's International office in CANADA, and started in CANADA for all of CANADA, not just parts of CANADA.

Thinking perhaps Tom needs a letter mailed to his office in OKC to inform him of these facts.

Well I'll be.... a little confrontation on Flowercaht... might be a first...

It's all in how you work the "System"...

I'd be curious Judy... are you a member of Teleflora ??

If so, I have some news for you too...

Hi Blue,

I know, but I feel badly for those who don't know what goes on, or stick their heads in the sand and think all is great, when in fact most of them are not doing so well. There is a large group of shops out there as we all know who don't even know what a Order Gatherer is, shocking I know but thems be the facts.

Peter,

I don't think many people consider you a serious player yet. Wait until Blossoms gets a little bigger, you should start to get the respect.

Judy.....

FTD hasn't promised me a thing!
Teleflora hasn't promised me a thing!
I'm still FTD, and not Teleflora.
I made a choice of one service, as so should every shop owner BEFORE you hit the proverbal financial money pit.
NONE of the above is "made up" , just facts.
It's NOT about sour grapes, it's NOT about apples and oranges, it's NOT about "upsmanship"...
It's on record, and it's history, and it's clear.
Pom poms aside, STILL, the reason for ANY thread about wire services is to CONTINUALLY open the eyes of independant florists, to continually present the informations as YOU see it, and to offer alternatives.
Blossoms Network is a growing venture, and IS a future alternative, that's working pretty darned well RIGHT NOW!

On one hand that is good, and as a Senator in the US has recently said, "Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear".Getting respect from TF isn't as important as them being accurate in what they publish. :)

Rosiescenario - Ryan

Rosiescenario,

Thanks for your answer. I will respect your desire for anonymity. To answer your questions, let me just say that FTD has been and is doing what they need to do to survive in this industry. Sure, they made mistakes - like all of us have. If they do not do things (like drop-shipping), someone else will. If they do not meet the challenges of the marketplace, they will cease to exist. The same challenge befalls us - we must do what we must to survive and hopefully prosper.

I wish FTD & Teleflora had authorized people to regularly post on this board so that they can clear up many questions and misunderstandings that posters
have. Ryan, what do you think about inviting them to chime in?

Give it all you HAVE about Teleflora..

I don't care anymore and you know that!

SPILL IT!

Nah... would not be prudent...(have I heard that someplace before?)

No reason to poke TF, they seem to be SELF-distructing on their own....

They choose to not listen, like FTD USED to do... now they are, and we'll see where it leads...

FTD DOES, and so does TF... they read this board RELIGOUSLY !

FTD folks, mostly from Tech... check in, I think just to make sure I am not mis-quoting...

Then again, maybe they check to see what I'm telling folks they should look at doing..

Ah well... ya know the reason they don;t post is cuz it would simply turn into a bash session....

Hey Sue!

Wondering who that other florist in Pittsburgh is... I posted regularly to the bulletin board, but didn't get a letter. We have Advantage, FTD credit card clearing, send FTD only, but refuse to fill for ftd.com, and don't carry many of the containers. Should I feel slighted???
