Hong Kong Wrap

Just realised that the pics are a bit dark so you cant see the points around the bouquet properly. Sorry about that, will do some better ones soon. Just found this pic, this is not mine but it shows the effect of how the one i have done would look in the light. Mine has palm leaves around it so the tissue is not as prominent but it would be if they were not there.

Those are the type of European Posies that I love! I think the Hong Kong variety are a bit much. Yours is beautiful Palms! I love simple...without all that extra fluff :>

Thanks Heather, thats a lovely comment and its so nice to have a compliment from another florist, i am not very confident of my work. These are standard bouquets that we send out, i think from what i can gather would be the same as your vases designs??

Standard Bouquets here are a "round strauss hand tied" - Wrap them pretty much the same way as Palms. Bouquets are delivered with a Cello bubble of Water around the stems and finished off with organza ribbon.

Those Pics of the Hong Kong wraps - Yea I think they are a bit overdone but I do something similar I guess - I use folded bits of Wrap cut into smaller pieces then either individually wired into the bouquet around the edge OR "taped" to the inside of the main wrap .... this just gives extra "fluff" to the outside of the bouquet and extra percieved value.

Another material to use to make a " hong Kong" wrap is Dried Lotus leaves around the individual flowers. I prefer more natural materials and to me not quite as overdone - this looks great with sunflowers and Natives

Yeah i like hessian wrap with sunflowers but its just the money side of it really...

Would love to see you post a picture of what you do too!

By the way, for our friends outside of the US, I pose a question for you. My aunt (who lives in Italy) was telling my mother of some type of paper that they use to wrap fresh flowers. She said that the florist will lay their hand on the paper with their fingers spread out into a fan. They will then use their other hand to push the paper in between their fingers which makes some sort of fan shape. I have asked my aunt (through my mother as my aunt doesn't speak English) to send me a sample, but it has never gotten here. Have any of you ever seen this type of paper treatment? Just a long shot but I thought I'd ask!

just found another example, am i getting carried away or what??

Can't do a photo today - but will next week..!

The ' Fan" shape is something I do for small posies - Have to make like a "Consertina" with the wrap - it's all in the fingers, When Wrapping I would use two, maybe 3 " Fans" like this then bind them around the stems - it " fluffs" out the bouquet as well as the Stems. - Sorry really hard to describe...!

It's a type of stretchy crepe paper Flowerchatter you can see picture of it here http://www.rainbowfloristsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Crepe.html tis a bit fiddly to use. Stretching it with the fingers makes it 'frilly' round the edge. I don't like it personally, bit too fussy for me jmo.

Personally I don't like the Crepe paper either .. plus I think its too exy to use... Can get the same sort of effect with what I tried to describe using cello and cheaper materials... as I said it's all in the fingers..!

I know it sounds terrible but my customers are not that bothered with green but you can still use this technique with hessian and other bio degradable products dee. I think i may do a rustic bouquet with sunflowers, willow, hypericum and wrapped in hessian. added another wrapping method i use. god i am even boring myself now lol

Palms, those are nice wraps you do! They would sell in my shop...what are you doing next Feb 14...lol
We have used tissue between 2 cellophanes for large and extra large presentation bouquets but the wrap does become costly. There is a company in Miami, I believe it is Koen...they have really interesting sisal wraps, tissue wraps etc..will try and find the site at work..but wanted to tell you that your wraps were nifty!

They are a little frou- frou :) but I was thinking the younger girls might like them. Just something different.
Me too. I like the $$ that moms will pay for that frou frou little puff of flowers. Sticky sweet, like an Ice Cream Soda arr. Can't wait to try them out on the recital crowd.

thanks Palms for the inspiration, and meherr for the intro to this new fun thing my mommies are gonna eat right up!

:)

Just returned recently from Beijing (my boyfriend competed in the Paralympics! The water cube is ever cooler than it looks on tv.) Saw a lot of the "Hong Kong" wraps in China- and also a TON of these:

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/9OeX18_ZcWp-yNHyLCskmg

Just about every flower shop I saw (and I walked the entire city!!) was a teeny, tiny little hole in the wall with TONS of these arrangements- so not a single cooler or vased arrangement in a shop while I was there.

The name of the book escapes me right now- (maybe a Paula Pryke book?) but it included photos of a bouquet with a similar wrap- layers and layers surrounding the bouquet, and some layers surrounding individual flowers- made with nori (pressed seaweed)!
