What kind of idiot asshole redneck lets an 8 year old shoot a machine gun? I hope he goes to prison.

I hope Obama bans all assault rifles.

Yup I said it.

And while he's at it, all automatic weapons and Saturday Nite Specials too. None of these things are legitimate hunting weapons, they are designed and made for one target alone - people.

I hate them too. My nephew shot himself in the head 4 months ago.
Yep, died. Too easy to get, too easy to misuse. Hate em. He was 19.
It was cheaper and easier to get access to a gun than to some anti anxity medication.

That is just so wrong. An 8 year old??? WHY would they let an 8 year old fire that gun??? Why does ANYONE need to fire an assault rifle.

I'm with you, Bloomz. That's just insane. I've never been to a gun show, but I shudder to think of the kinds of people I'd see there.

Yeah, go ahead and post hateful cr*p toward me about my last sentence. I don't care. I think this kind of thing panders to a weird, scary group.

well, here I go...

I'm an Obama supporter and a 2nd amendment supporter.

I grew up being able to shoot a gun. We always had guns in the house. We were taught NOT to touch them without my parents supervision ever. We were taught not to point guns at people, NOT even TOY GUNS. We were taught how to carry guns and respect guns.

Your second amendment rights are not there just for hunting. in fact, hunting had very little to do with Our Fore Fathers making the 2nd amendment so important that it is 2nd only to freedom of speech, press, religion, expression, and assembly.

I'm not an asshole, and neither is my father (A Vietnam vet who did 2 tours, one of which was search and recovery, can you imagine?) or my grandfather (A WW2 vet), both of which would take us kids out and teach us how to handle a pistol and a rifle.

I have never been to a gun show, but I wouldn't say I'd never go. The people who go to gun shows are not the people to worry about. Most of those people are fine, tax paying, law abiding citizens. Their weapons are USUALLY registered. Of course there are always gonna be bad apples.

If you take away everybody's weapons, the only non military or non law enforcement people with weapons are criminals.

Not every person who owns a gun is a crazy who is gonna open fire on a church or post office or school.

I'm not going to get into a big arguement about this. No one will change my mind on this either. So please don't pick a fight with me, cause I will not answer anyone.

PM me if you want.

P.S. I also know 2 people who have killed themselves with self inflicted gunshot wounds, One was even a hunters safety teacher

I really thought that was a joke the first time I read it!!!! Now I am just shaking my head with my mouth hanging open.

What the helll could the "other fun stuff we can't mention here" be?!?!? WOW!!!!:wallhead:

Chez, I am SO sorry to hear about your nephew!

Shannon,

You make a very good point.

There is no justifyable reason to have a machine gun, the people who are putting on this show are helping to foster a very unhealthy gun culture.

The British aren't going to invade, only criminals need guns.

Bloomzie, it was the fault of the idiot that allowed an 8 year old to fire such a weapon. Not the weapon.

Thousands of kids are killed everyday in car accidents. Maybe Obama should ban all cars.

Kids are killed huffing aerosals. Maybe Obama should ban all aerosals.

Kids die from drugs, maybe Obama should ban drugs. Oops they are banned and it doesn't seem to stop that from happening.

The state of Illinois has some of the toughest restrictions on law a biding citizens getting and owning a gun, yet crimes committed with guns is growing.

It wasn't the guns fault but the person who allowed this to happen.

thank you for this thread.

I just renewed my NRA membership. I have not been a member in 8 years.

joe

p.s. don't you have some extra reading to do?

Australia has not only banned guns, but confiscated them. And from I am reading crimes committed with a gun are growing in that country.

The only people that are hurt are law a biding citizens. Bad guys never have and never will let a law get in the way of what they plan on doing.

I too was taught to hunt & shoot at a very young age.
I have not touched a gun in ages....and have no intention of doing so again.

Case in point happened in our area just last week.
Father of 2 twin 8/9 year old boys retrieved a gun from his brothers place because he was taking it to a place to sell it on Saturday. Dealer wasn't there. Took it home with him, made sure to separate the shells/bullets from the weapon, and put each in a separate, "hidden" place.

One curious brother got the gun, and "found" the ammo. Loaded the weapon, and it tried it out. Shot & killed his brother instantly.

Tragic unneeded loss of a brilliant brother & son.

Kids & guns NEVER MIX.

IMHO.

Cheryl

Being the son of a cop and an ex-military man......I have to echo Shannon's comments. My Dad and My Granddad both saw to it that My Mom and I learned the proper ways to handle, store, and use a firearm. I was taught early on....."A man who is not ready and able to defend his home does not belong in our family " My house does have suitable firearms for defending my home.

You mention an 8 year old handling a gun......I was eight when I first started learning.....with only a bb gun and careful, close, adult, scrutiny and supervision. I should also add that if I mis-behaved.....my hiney suffered heavily and painfully by the wieding of a thing we called a switch. As I got older.....I began useing more powerful firearms.....again, under careful, close, adult scrutiny and the constant threat of switches to my butt if I mis-behaved with the firearms.

I also have to agree with JB. Automatic weapons, Uzi's, and other military weaponry have no place in the home or on the shooting or hunting range. Those are designed for military use on the battlefield and there they should stay.

Just to add........switches hurt......A LOT !!!!

I guess you could make that same case for Howitzers and Claymores too? He ll why not ricin and bio weapons too? They don't kill people either.

I'd bet the case can and will be argued if it wasn't a machine gun it wouldn't have gotten out of his control.

The war on drugs is not Obama's failure yet.

Fox your arguments are getting more and more desperate as the inevitable approaches.

Obama everything.

Obama... Jo Mama.

Is it time to pull the "Chicago is more dangerous than Bagdad again yet?"

Have I mentioned I'd like to see them ban alcohol also?

Either that or legalize the rest of the drugs.

Machine guns should be banned. Machine guns kill people. Assault weapons are designed for killing people. They should never be found outside of the battlefield.

My point, to echo what some have said, is that the law-abiding citizens do not have a problem with guns. I do not have a problem with guns, as far as self defense, hunting and so on. I happen to agree with the Second amendment of the US constitution.

However,
Too many guns fall into the wrong hands...be they young & untrained or unsupervised hands....or end up as stolen weapons.

The boys I described above are both victims. Their Dad tried to take the proper steps. He just never believed that his boys would be "curious" about the gun he brought into the house. Big mistake!

Further,
Today, every young man, punk or thug, has a gun in their belt or coat. It's their right. Don't like the way you look at them, or their girlfiend, or what side of the street you happen to be standing on....and you get shot. Often with a semi-automatic weapon (or fully automatic).

I do not undertand how these kids get the weapons to begin with.
I don't undertand why they think it is their RIGHT TO POSSESS a semi-automatic weapon...............!!
I do not undertand how they can point & shoot a weapon at someone with so little regard for another human being's life......and say in court that they did not mean for them to die! (WTF!! .... are you stupid or what??)

I guess I'm just old.
I don't play video games either, so my heroes don't get to get shot, & get up and walk away when the buzzer sounds and the game is over.

I know, guns don't kill people.....people kill people.....

It's just all so much of a waste.

Cheryl

My husband as an assault weapon and I have gone to the range and shot it. I felt the same about guns until he had me take the certification class and learn about them...I now have respect for them and I have learned the signs of an asshole gun owner...and a respectful gun owner...

Public ranges should be banned...they are dabgerous. This festival is one of those types of places..they don't do a background check and no licence is needed which means you could be handing over this assault rifle to a cookoo person or a felon just waiting to get his hand on a gun...My husband and I are not scary people but between us we own 15 guns of all sorts and sizes...It is a hobby...

Australian law does dictate the one cannot own a Gun with out a licence. This came about after Martin Bryant went on a Massacre in Port Arthur. I am not aware that Crimes commited with firearms were/ are on the rise.

I grew up in a Family that did have Guns. My Family comes from a rural background so to me Guns in ONLY that enviroment are a necessity.

Couldn't the only difference between a " Criminal with a gun" and a " Law abiding citizen with a gun" be a Temper?

The confiscation was part of the Buy back scheme from those that did not want or could not hold a Fire arm licence before the laws actually came into place.

As I said in my previous post I was not aware that Crimes commited with a Firearm were on the increase.

No, a temper does not make a criminal...

I would say desperation would be a more common factor among criminals.
