Lily of the Valley Techniques

I didn't edit it at all. I have a Canon Power Shot (one of the nicer ones) and I put it on a tripod. I have a front window that gets lots of natural light and try to set up the bouquets there with an organza background.

I had also noticed that for such a close up shot, it was really crisp and clear. Great pic and I'll have to check out the Canon Power Shot camera. I've been looking at cameras and wondering which one one take good close up pics. Looks like I found my answer! Thanks Mocha!

Your design is fabulous and I DO LOVE the white scabiosa!!!

YUM!!!!!!!!!!! I think that is just amazing!
Is there white scabiosa in the bouquet or is it just the wine..hahha
Beautiful job!
great pic!

Yep! That is white sabiosa. I had a lot of fun making this bouquet and well, designing the entire wedding. The bride is older, stylish and gave me 100% creative freedom over everything. I even picked her bridesmaid dress colors! She had a great budget to boot.

Her requests for the bouquet: something white, pretty and elegant. If possible lily of the valley in honor of her grandmother.

I'm so excited to show her everything today. Her requests for the reception were elegant and a fall feel without fall colors. I made centerpieces using purple kale as a base and mixed in jewel tones -bright blues, greens, wine, purple.

I know you just asked about the scabiosa, but my excitement got me carried away...

anyways the bouquet is: eskimo roses, white mini callas, sweet pea, white double freesia, lily of the valley, scabiosa - I think that's it, but I might have thrown something else in there too.

Gorgeous - I have a creative bride like that today as well, though a totally different aesthetic. They are the most fun, regardless of the budget, the brides who give creative freedom.

Love the touches of green - very very well done! I'm a scabi fan too, though it usually comes in not very nice. White would be a nightmare - from your local wholesaler, or online?

I'm enjoying this thread. And listen to Mocha, the tripod makes a world of difference for me. I have just an "ok" Exilim camera (my next one will be a Canon for sure) but the tripod really helps eliminate those blurry shots.

Very beautiful bouquet.
The combination of textures is gorgeous!

Your bouquet is awesome! I envy you that you have a wholesaler willing to order out of season flowers when money is no object. Sometimes I wish I wasn't living on an island but then I love it here. I had a similar situation this summer when I wanted a specific Calla Lily that was just out of season. We have only two wholesalers here and they would not order them for me .The bride was willing to pay up to 9.00 per stem but the wholesalers said they have to order a minimum amount and they didn't want to get stuck with the rest and loose money.
I'm sure your bride had tears of happiness when she saw her bouquet.

Thank you all for your kind words! I'm blushing!!! :pblush:

The wedding was amazing- probably my favorite of the year. It's rare that you get someone so flexible, trusting and still have a great budget. Since she gave me so much freedom, It was liking planning my own wedding all over again with 5 times the budget and none of the stress! (Well, a little when the FDA confiscated my kale).

If anyone is interested, I just posted a blog with photos of the reception: http://mocharosedesigns.blogspot.com/2008/10/leslie-and-ben.html

Again, thank you! This thread was intended for design techniques and it turned into a flood of compliments that I wasn't expecting. You've made my day. We had a few rough weddings lately and this one reminded me why I do what I do.

BINGO! We got a winner! Just checked out the blog sight and your wedding was beautiful, absolutely beautiful. How cool is it that the guests can look down on the dining sight. Love that kind of perspective.
I'm still so jealous though about the scabiosa... :)

Oh, tell us about the FDA confiscation of the kale...

First of all.....gorgeous bouquet and gorgeous reception pictures.

We are all raving about how beautiful this is and here is old Ricky fixing to ask the big question......Did you make a profit on this wedding?

Thanks so much to you all for asking such qreat questions-and sharing such wonderful, generous answers. Ive been checking out different blogs and ways to set up photos(which cameras and lighting to use) Just by reading your posts have helped so much. From the photos here I just had to look at the blog. Who would want to see an FTD snap shot when we can look at this be-u-te-full eye candy. Im so happy I found this place.

Well, yes! The bride actually paid for 26 centerpieces and only had 22 in the end so there was a lot of flex money. I actually ended up making quite a good profit and wrote her a check back for a refund for the amount she over paid past the due date. Like I said, she had a great budget!

Oh, tell us about the FDA confiscation of the kale...

As far as the scabiosa, I received 2 bunches and there were probably only about 6 useable blooms. (I'm VERY picky, though.)

For the Kale, it was held by the FDA due to pests. There were a few other items in the box but I assumed that kale was the culprit since I received shipments in the past with bugs. Anyways, my supplier told me that the box was confinscated by the FDA and I couldn't get it back. SO I went on a last minute scramble for kale, lotus, scabiosa, callas, etc. I found them for decent price ( finally!) and then the very next morning the confiscated shippement arrived *=(mostly frozen but still funny).

Very beautiful work, thanks for sharing the pics, love the color of the kale. I've been trying to get the green lotus pods and have had no luck, grrrr, lucky you.

Trish
