Our wire ins are the same as last year, a tiny bit up (looked at Sun thru Sat (today)). The incomings flew in today. My two favorite words on almost every order... after the first choice... "OPEN ORDER". My average wire in order $60.64.

Wire In's were up a wee bit this year. Our Avg was $61.78 - mainly due to us rejecting virtually anything below $49.99! (unless it were a special, or something we had mass-produced...)

Wire Outs were a bit lower, but by only a couple hundred bucks...like 3 orders or so...

CASH - up a whopping $15.68 ! - for the WEEK! Woo-Hoo!!!

Too bad we don't see those "Open Order" on .Coms and the such...dang, I can remember it was "Industry PRACTICE" to ONLY send "Open Order" for the product on ANY order that you sent the day before a major holiday. Actually, we have an old Advantage product code still around called OPEN - used to use 'back in da' day'...

- H.

16 incoming
11 add'l rejected
8 outgoing

28 online orders

It's the first M-day our online orders outnumbered our incoming wires; even with a teleflora site I find that encouraging.

75 wire-ins filled. 11 rejected.

9 orders direct from other florists.

20 web orders, 15 from out of state. I haven't looked at how many customers were looking at website when placing phone order. Temp help probably did not record that info, although our POS plainly asked for it.

We had no WS last MD.

10 - but added plenty of new customers (you made me figure out how to do it Boss).

I like that just fine.

From May 1st to May 15th we've had 36 incomings. Hard to believe just 4 years ago we had 136 incomings for the same period of time.

Bloomz....you're the man!! What's your strategy to keep that figure down that low.

Doing a lot of forwarding?

Only forwarded the obvously skimmed Mac...JF and Cambridge. And there were probably 8-10 of them.,

The other shops in town love incoming and I'm sure they get the Lion's share, which is fine with me. They can have all the incoming - I'll take all the outgoing.

I am sure you have JB - but since you and I both know the Ws system favors sending over filling.......since you just stated you'll TAKE the sending.......Have you considered becoming SFO ( sending florist only )?

Being SFO is not something I know a lot about......there are a few shops here in SC that are that......they seem to be holding their own in the economy

No Ricky I haven't - or rather sure I've considered it and decided against it.

We have a wonderful flower shop that needs to be used - we gladly take (non skimmed) incoming but don't court them. On the other hand we do court outgoing.

and I'm not sure the ws necessarily "favors" sending - since filling is just as important of part of that equation.

Go ahead - somebody bite my head off for that statement.

This is not speculation, this is honest go God fact: In all my years with the w/s, I can say that every single one of them did favor senders over fillers by a mile -- gave them special deals, , freebies, bigger rebates, better credit card rates.

Also, just the fact that the w/s impose low send and reciprocity fees (penalties) on fillers who do not reciprocate by sending ... sends a loud and clear message that they, in no way, favor filling florists.

But don't most industries reward sales generators? They're what drive the satisfaction of the fillers, a just as vital and necessary part of the equation.

Their rewards are orders they want.

I know it's screwy and I haven't had coffee yet but there's a point there somewhere.

Maybe it's the term "favors". Rewards yes, favors I am not so sure.

Don;t ask me to explain how they do it, but over the Mother's day holiday, I freelanced at a shop that goes after incoming orders.....They are all three WS.....and they get a huge share of orders.

I think I mentioned this in another thread.......or in a previous posting in this thread perhaps......this shop probably had well over two hundred orders EASY....... and of those.....less than 10 were non-specific wire service branded/special arrangements (designer's choice ).

Smehow or other they are a hugely profitable shop........off of incoming orders. I shoud mention that they do follow the given recipe to full published amount of flowers and foliage.

Not going to bite...but....

Do you really want to to publish (again) the breakdown of a $50.00 order showing that the sender makes AS MUCH than the filler gets paid?

I mean, what's 20% of $50 + 14.95 + $8 Rebate, compared to $35 received by the filler? Answer= $32.95 (sender)

And remember the filler has to take their delivery out of the $35.00...

Yup...seems fair to me.....NOT.

BOSS, I'm with you, dead-on. I did not add another comment above because sometimes I feel it's a rhetorical question about whether wire services and OGs are being fair to filling florists.

Altho I'm pretty new to FC, I'm already feeling like the readers are thinking, "there goes Di again, beating the dead horse."

Boy howdy - could you run that math by me again a couple hundred more times perhaps?

It helps convince me I'm in the right business.

TIA

Yea, better yet, I'll call you this afternoon and give you a personal tutorial...
