I've been away for a couple of days and just read the news - Your baby was in my thoughts continually, so I was happy to read your update!
You sure made one thing clear...you have to go and look for yourself!
This is not the first time I've heard of this situation - thank goodness you checked before it was much later.

prayers for pets

i have just caught up on some long overdue reading. as a dog lover, i recognize the pain that you went through. as i read further through the post...i saw the situation only getting worse. proving that there is still light at the end of the tunnel...i rejoiced with your finding of cole. there is a great website at www.prayersforpets.org. i found that site when my parker suffered a stroke on her 3rd birthday...june 13, 2004. different...but similar...for 4-5 days all seemed lost.
55 months later (as of today) parker continues to rule our home. miracles do happen. there might be a few cynics out there that can't get their arms around miracles....but you'd have a hard time convincing me that they don't occur.
we are so happy that there was a happy ending to your story, joan.

Joan, even though I haven't posted previously about your baby, please know that I read it earlier and prayed for his safe return.

This is a great lesson to us all to have proof of ownership available and ready as well as having your pet microchiped. One scan and whoever has him/her will know the location of the owner.

My babies are microchiped but what do you use to show proof of ownership. This post has made me so nervous!

Yeah, I know! After I read her post about having proof, it freaked me out a little.

You can have updated photos (just like a child). You can take close ups showing any unusual markings. My Yorkie has a strange red vein in the white of her eye. She has had it since birth. She also has a tiny bald spot on her behind where she had an allergic reaction to the rabies shot.

I think Joan handled the situation just beautifully. If I went to the shelter and my baby was there all the time and then they had the nerve to ask me for proof (when she clearly knew me) and to top that off, gave me a fine after someone else broke my fence, I would have went totally red-neck on those people. They are supposed to be re-uniting people with the animals not training the people to jump through hoops!
