Star Alliance

Thanks mlou for the link. I guess since I'm with sunflower productions I'm part of this new direction. I just wish they would have included the members at large with pre-post plan information before launching.

One thing I don't like hearing is 'clearinghouse' and 'rebates'.

New Faces - Old Ideas

Yes Michael, you are right. There it is again. The terms clearinghouse and rebates. The same ideas that got us into this crap and we have people who want to perpetuate it. Some florists just can't see past the 20-80 and others don't want it to end because they have too much invested in order gathering. Why would you NEED a clearinghouse to send orders? Maybe the florists should also ask where the rebates come from on a straight 20-80 program?

Happy New Year and hopefully 2005 will be better than the last two.

It is important to realize that it’s impossible to be all things to all people. Like you I share some of your concerns about the future. One thing we have to give them credit for is a least there are independent companies re-evaluating everything, and developing new ideas that can bring value to many.

Some pretty...

significant "players" here....this is NOT going to be another WS as we know it...from what I have heard an seen, we are starting the REAL FLORIST process all over again!!....with the "FOCUS" on the REAL FLORISTS for a change!!

Mikey

Change does not have to be a 20-80 program. This is just another Halloween Mask and I will not have any part of this 'give me candy and I will give you an order'.

I agree..."significant 'players' here"

Mikey,

Are we reading the same press release...
Yes, I agree..."significant 'players' here"

"this is NOT going to be another WS as we know it"...looks like it to me...clearhouse, rebates, 80-20 split, sun's website fees are the same or aleast close to WS, Selection guide, Wall calendars and the list goes on and on...just that the fees are going to start out lower...NO BIG CHANGE...

"from what I have heard an seen, we are starting the REAL FLORIST process all over again!!...." sure they are... FSI now has their order gathering site up too...http://www.pfsflorist.com/index.html

"with the "FOCUS" on the REAL FLORISTS for a change!!"...oh well, I am willing to take a wait and see appraoch...but if it is such a "good deal" why didn't they merge instead of forming an alliance where they will still compete for florist members...

Ya now what is funny?

Me and us other folks who are not participating in this so called organized movement have come to shake our heads. Do you folks really know where your money is at?.

2005 huh? ok go for it you Florists.

Mlou -
I really don't think that site is anything more than a fsi member - just using the logo, but I see no connection directly to FSI to make me believe it actually IS FSI collecting orders. Do you have reason to believe otherwise?

Some choose to sit back and wait. Others choose to take the lead. The website is not FSI. Just a member. I know where my money is at. Best Christmas in years. How about you?

Funny

But I looked everywhere on PFS which I came to directly from this new WS and all I can find is a florist in NJ..........SURE looks like an OG to me but what do I know. Looks like just another ws, 80/20 rebates etc, Do we really need this? I fail to see what the difference is. And with all due respect to MAS team, aren't many of your members big OG's? So how does this make it any different than any other WS? I am open to something that is an improvement on what we have..what am I missing that is an improvement here? Tell me please. And again, I do not care if you are a real florist gathering orders and sending them as long as you are not skimming. It beats having a WS grab them............ and I can work your order to my best advantage. Now if you are not a real florist then the ball game changes but please enlighten me here. I see a directory that has no one listed but this NJ florists, another directory not even up yet, a tiered rebate program, a year rate guaranteed, and so on and so on.

Sher, I think Rob and Bloomz maybe right...this "order gathering" site maybe a FloralSource member using their logo...

But I agree with you that the WS Star Alliance is offering is the same old song, just cheaper...

We "read" the same site......

happy to report you are right...hope the "ghosts" are watching...it's outlandish to think that REAL FLORISTS of today, could be fooled again...NEVER again!!

time of change

All of these companies are completly independant of each other, something the old song did not supply. We understand there will be people quick to shoot, however someone is creating a change and with that change comes trial and error. You must look at your business and see if this is right for you. With the choices retail florists have today I really don't see how you cannot support these efforts. This was not done overnight and there was a tremendous amount of input provided by YOU THE REAL FLORIST. Our services "MAS" are not just limited to this new alliance, as an independant we will continue to offer our systems to any retail florist so they continue to have a choice in business and not be beholded to a wire service due to technology. 2005 is here and lots of changes coming with it, I hope each of you will look at this alliance as a positive step in correcting the imbalance between the wire services and the retail florists. Together we can make a change.
Happy New Year- Hal

So again, I ask.how is this of benefit to me????? If I can utilize all of the services free standing then where is the benefit....

I don't think I am shooting, just asking questions and unfortunately for you, I am asking questions that I did not ask with the other 2 WS.Live and learn!

This was not done overnight and there was a tremendous amount of input provided by YOU THE REAL FLORIST.
I thought all the REAL FLORIST input was focused on having no rebates, ability to send direct and a change in the 80/20. What I am seeing is a similiar selection that is currently being offered by the other 2ws's. What am I missing?
Happy New Year- Hal

And a Happy New Year to you Also! Please do not be offended, I have questions and won't hesitate to throw them in your direction.I just want to make an intelligent decision You have always been upfront and honest and I don't think this will change! Sher

Well I said it last week and I will say it again that the florist to florist business built on the wire service model is a dieing breed. Five years from now it will matter little to most of us. EFTA was started with money robbed from real hard working FTD florist by the old ftd association. And they went belly up because the real florist did not follow them. I did not follow them then and will not follow them now.

The model we need, needs to run on a new railroad track and utilize the internet cutting out all the labor in the middle that is needed to run a florist to florist business.

Like many things that hit the boards, alot of time folks rush to judgement, and decide based on past experiences.

IMHO, each of the companies involved in the new "alliance" bring to the table unique opportunities that offer alternatives to many of the things I currently utalize in my business, and some I don't.

I'm reserving judgement until I have time to fully evaluate how this might be used to allow me to make some changes to my business and move forward in the new year.

"ANOTHER" way to say this IS.....

IF this even remotely "resembles" the same old, same old, just with new faces, then it is already in jeapordy,BUT, I see things into the "future" and MY crystal ball says "forget about aligning with wire services for your future"...."align and surround yourself with good people and good service providers, and you WILL HAVE a future"!!
