Too funny, letter from FTD..

I think your right on price point for the C4 Luc. In our shop an inhouse design for $60 is way bigger than that little thing and the container is crap so your not really getting much value. I think I will use that container when I run out of the C2 and sell them for the same price point just to get rid of them.
since I can't give the waterford away, I may donate them to the local thrift shop so I can at least get a write off for the full amount.
Finally sold a few of the sleighs last night.

We're going through the TF specials we purchased by splitting with two other florists at a rapid rate. The florist that was in charge of ordering/receiving/paying/separatingand that knew the other florist and has been splitting with her for years, well, the other florist went bankrupt and the florist I know is stuck with her third about $500.00 worth. So she let me know if I need more she's got them.

I still have 11 TK cottages left from last year, 16 of the bowls and 8 of the jeweled crystal dishes. I had one train and one silver sleigh. I have one santa ornament still (remember those mistakes) and the white pedestal container from FTD 2001 (c3).

So I think we'll be able to use everything up this year and that is only because we split containers with another florist, other than that I'd be storing this stuff in the basement AGAIN.

I hate money tied up in inventory, ya know? It's not like you can use Christmasy looking containers for other occasions.

I bought the blue dove container, but that was for funerals, not Christmas.

My goal this year is to store next to nothing for next year. Sometimes it's better to use up old containers and try to get a little over cost than to store them and at least get your money back. I might just stop buying containers entirely and do our own thing come next year.

That's basically where we stand....

we're at the point where codifying for containers is rapidly becoming counter-productive, and neither of the WS's are in it FOR YOU...
Mike

This will be our last season of codifieds. I have already canceled the orders I had placed with TF for V-day and I'm not ordering anything for M-day. We are going to do some serious re-thinking about how we handle M-day anyway. The majority of our business for M-day is wire ins since this is such a huge retirement area. We don't make any money in May! We send almost nothing in May and our local business is higher than normal months but I figured that if we had not taken in a single wire order for the month of May last year we would have come out ahead of the game. Sooo, this year is going to be different.

Jim,
here also is a retirement town but I have lots of my clients that want the codified arr for Mother's Day so i ordered the ftd stuff and waiting on teleflora to get a better break down on the codified item. I advertised on my web site these item and often sell them at 100% to my regular customers who check there first then gives me a call. As for valentine, I don't take any thing from both wire service as I sell more roses wrap than arr.
Luc

We are also dumping the WS specials. We have not missed them one bit. We bought a mixed pack from F.T.D. All the C2s are gone, not one ornament yet and moved one of the white blobs for an "as similar as possible".

We were not going to do anything from Teleflora but ending up buying 24 Kincade's they are mostly gone. I have snapped off two crosses from the church (poor design).

We went with our own designs and we are very pleased with the results so far. The bases are 1/3 the cost or less (including foam, greens, cones and misc.) of any WS "special".

Have a great "one" everyone and you too Tiny Tim.

Doug:beer (right about now I deserve one)

Thought it would be awful not to have the TF Mother's Day keepsake containers last May. I did it anyway and no one knew the difference. I had quite a few delicate, feminine keepsake dishware pieces I bought locally for those that are dependent on keepsakes. Many do not want a lot of money put in the container/vase.

Valentine's Day containers are always something that we could have done without so we did last year entirely. Just got some local items and just a few at that. Val. Day is way more about flowers and way less about containers.

Easter is dying more and more each year so definitely no codifieds then.

It's not easy to NOT buy them. It's like an addiction.

Ok, here's a question for you all. As you know, FTD has cut me off from all of the member password internet functions and they sent this letter that says I must return the selection guide and to cease and desist from sending and receiving orders via FTD. So, does that mean that when I get FTD.com orders over the Merc that I should just throw them in the trash? After all FTD is the one that told me to stop using their services and yet they continue to send me orders....

Personally, I'd call FTD and state that since they've gone out of their way to give you grief, that you intend to pitch the .coms in the trash. They've cut you off, not vice versa, it's their problem not yours to fix it.

I'm confused, Does FTD think the members just "Rent" the selection guide??? Is that written in the members fool rules???

Jim , I'd call to Bob Norton directly and ask him what exactly your situation is and if they want you to fill and except those .com orders to put in writing via e-mail the gaurantee that (1) you are still a member of FTD and entitled to all things ie the bulletion board (2) that you will be reimbursed 100% for the cost of the fabulous FTD selection guide upon the date that you are no longer a member if this is not acceptable to him then I would ignore and toss in the garbage all incoming orders and let them deal with it afterward .

I know how you feel jim, but Moraly I would not be right to thras orders if we are mad at them. I would simply reject the orders and let them find a solution to their problem.
As fro the selection guide I think you should keep it or they should refund a partial price for it for the time not used.
Luc

But on the other hand Luc, FTD sent me the letter telling me to stop filling FTD orders.

Why don't ya...

While I do not agree or disagree with Jims choice, doing as you suggest, would only harm not only unknowing REAL FLORISTS, but the industry as a whole...

The easy soloution is to simply UNplug the Merc...

I would not do that to a real florist Boss. I guess my point was more towards the fact that FTD sure was quick to cut me off of everything that I use but since they still need ME to fill their FTD.con orders they don't seem to be playing a fair game, but then again that's the whole reason that I quit FTD to begin with. The reason that I am keeping the merc on through next Wed. is in the rather hopeless chance that some one somewhere will want one of these stupid FTD keepsakes that I have and send me an order. At this point even a disounted order is better than no order. As we all know, once Christmas is over these things might as well go in the trash.

I did NOT think you would. And who knows, might be handy in case anyone needs to send you an ASK.

I concur, being cut off "might" be justification to cut them off, but your concious will be celarer if'n you take the high road.

Happy HoliDAZE to you and yours...

JIM....

I KNOW you are ill, and your wife is ill, and I KNOW you're pissed, and YOU HAVE EVERY REASON to be!
Email BOB...right away...tell him what's up, DON'T ASK...TELL HIM!!
WHICH WAY FTD wants this game to be "played"!!
IF he "replies" and YOU are satisfied with the "answer" then leave on the Merc, ONLY IF you are GUARANTEED full member priviledges until your final cutoff date!!...and returning YOUR selection guide, since you've paid for it IS NOT AN OPTION, unless FULLY RE-Imbursed, and in writing.
PRINT OFF the email, and FAX it to HQ, and keep a verified copy of the confirmation!!
Leave the Merc ON, NO REPLY, NO ORDERS FILLED!!
Screw them for playing this stupid game!!
You are THE DRIVER in your area....not some cut rate taxi for THEIR flower orders!!
