*Design Competition* Your Best Dozen Roses - Discussion

With only just over 2 dozen entries, there is almost a 50/50 shot at winning - that's very cool! So I need a clarification please ...
The top 12 winners will be the members with the highest point totals as of 12 p.m. midnight, Eastern Time, Sunday October 5
Does this mean the same as "rating" on the gallery pages, which is an average of all the ratings, or a sum of all of the ratings. I've never entered any design competitions before, and have paid little attention to how winning designs are determined. I had thought average, till I re-read the above sentence.

thanks!

:blowkiss:

We're going to add up the ratings points given to each entry.

Yes, it will be done manually and we are hoping members will help us check and re-check the numbers next Monday. (Voting closes Sunday night.)

We're working within the bounds of the software and ratings points seemed a more fair way than averages. It's a learning experience for us all and we're counting on the FC members to do their part and add appropriate comments and ratings.

can we vote for our own design????
cause if we can....

Hey, the pres votes for himself!!

I love this contest. We should do more of these. My creative juices are flowing. I procrastinated my entry but it is just as well because it looks like I would have nearly duplicated someone else's design.

What is the next contest so that I can enter early?

Big Cheese reporting in - lost arrangement found and restored to the gallery.

Thanks, Big Cheese. :> That was fast!
OK, how come Cathy (CHR) did not post a design? I was looking forward to seeing something from you :(
Since the competition was my idea, I thought it better to sit this one out, but you can always check out what we do with rose arrangements on our site.

Over the years, I've made it a policy to refrain for competing or officially judging in any event I've chaired or where we've had employees participating. It's just simpler and removes any question of favoritism.

Everybody who entered did a great job, hope we have more of these contests in the future :)
I am really please with the variety of designs and with the thoughtful comments offered each participant, so far. We all have different tastes and scales for assessing arrangements, and that's what has made the comments and marks both interesting and insightful. Applause to the pros who have taken the time to vote and add their remarks. :) Hope everyone takes a few minutes and adds their .02's.

I don't have a favorite, I love all the diversity....

Cathy, I have always loved this one on your website!

Cathy,

I am truly thankful that you suggested this idea. I have never posted a picture (didn't know how until last week) before. Even though I didn't have time to really make mine spectacular, I am glad to have participated.

I too love the diversity! Each and every one of the designs gives me great ideas. I hope we can do this again in the future, even just for the inspiration. We all can become better designers, photographers, and photo posters!

It takes some backbone to submit a photo of something you made and allow people to publicly give their opinion of it.

I agree, i have learnt so much from peoples comments, more so the first set of comments i have to say. But, when i get a minute i am going to re do my design with all the comments in mind.

I have also learnt what a photo can do for a design too......

I have got to say, i have my favourites, sellable and designer at the same time. Love the creativity!!

I read somewhere that you couldnt edit your rating after you done it, but I just done it i think, I changed a score from 9 to 10, cause it was bugging me why i didnt do 10 at first, anyway, whoever that was that couldnt change the score then you can when you press edit at your comment :>

I did that as well on a design I mistakenly rated a 6, when I meant to rate a 9. You can edit the rating, and comments.

I've learned a lot from reading the comments as well. Kind of wish the voting/commenting was an option for the general public as well. Maybe for the next Designer's Challenge!

ummm..

OK, what happened?? My arrangement is not in the competition anymore.. Or at least I can't see it.

Was I disqualified or something???

Oh, I guess it was when I was trying to put in a product list.. That moved it.. I guess it's back now.

I know that I did not submit a design but I would just like to say a BIG congratulations on the people that did submit and also say that you ALL did a fantastic job and each and everyone's creative abilities are just great! Thank you so much for sharing and CHR great idea for this forum!:flower:
