I give this florist the award for the poorest spelling and grammar.
It is a paid google listing found on the other chat board whose ad stated something about "% of FTD Orders"
Is this a "real" florist located in San Diego?
http://www.floweraffair.net/
Look at the top paragraph intro.
Off to whois ....... whois shows as a legit shop in San Diego, but if that is an FTD executed site as it states, their editors need English lessons or can you produce your own site through ftdfloristsonline now?

Yes, that is poor grammar and spelling. The work was probably outsourced to India or the Phillipines!!

Hummmm. It's either been corrected, or I read the wrong paragraph.

That's just the intro.

But then again, seeing some writings of local high school students, why should I be surprised?

Rhonda, there is confusion among FC users regarding "Your, You're, Yore"... drives me nuts. ;) Of course spelling and grammar are huge issues for me. If I see a site full of improper use of language, I leave. I'm not interested in dealing with anyone who doesn't pay attention to the details of public presentation. To me, if they don't care about that, why would I think they care about the details of my order.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a problem with this type of stuff. I am a stickler for proper use of correctly spelled words. Sometimes a typo happens but I find that alot of people use your for you're and similar things. I may not have the best grammar, but I try.

oLori, I do recognise that some people have learning issues, but I don't believe that encompasses all literate people! Some of it can be attributed directly to the education system... they don't teach it, kids don't learn it. My daughter, who is wonderful with words, has rotten spelling. Drives me crazy! Before I post her travel adventures I correct them to the best of my ability. We rely too heavily on spell check, when a dictionary is far more accurate and useful.

LOL, there's a difference between talking to friends on a chat board than there is on a public site such as a web site is.
And no, spell check doesn't work. Although it prompts me for grammar alot (cause I use lots of non-sentences) and can tend to ramble on and on with no specific subject (as you can tell).
I know I've seen quite a few sites with lack of correct spelling, use of contractions correctly, and wonder if they've done it themselves or have paid someone to do it and receive less than professional work.
I'm not dinging anyone here !!!!

Oh I know this. My husband has near genius intellegence sp? but can't spell worth anything....and his grammar is horrendous, too. He can kick butt in the world of math and history...We all have our issues and it is not a knock on anybodies intellegence just drives me crazy and sorry if it came across that way in the first post it is just a peeve of mine, just like the toilet paper on backwards...no real right or wrong except in my head therefore I just usually keep quiet about it..

I love to see rest. menus with horrific spelling. It makes me crazy...it prtrays the business as unprofessional and cheapens their image..

...just like the toilet paper on backwards...

Ha! A girlfriend of mine in college and I were complaining about people in the house putting the tp on backwards, and how much it bothered us. Then we realized that both of us thought the OTHER'S way was backwards...
We agreed to stay out of the other's bathroom, and not change the paper anymore!

The British spelling is with an "s"... :) It's how I was taught.

Oops! That's what I get for reading before I'm fully awake!

And don't you just hate it when someone squeezes the toothpaste in the wrong place!

I, too, have a friend who is probably a genius. She is amazing at lots of things, but she cannot spell worth anything! She is an artist, so she spells creatively also. *wink*

Who is oLori...& why do I want to change that word to "recognize"???

Your won crazee fello! Butt than again, what dew eye no?

British vs. American English

The British spelling is with an "s"... :) It's how I was taught.

Just to note the weird & wonderful nuances of language...here is the British English version of a simple paragraph I just made up (differences in bold). Americans please note...it's not that Brits, Canucks, & Aussies can't spell. We just tend to do things a bit differently!

"My favourite way to analyse the differences would be not to criticise, but rather to memorise the mediaeval way of writing.

Like honouring a cheque at the banque, one cannot catalogue this defence no matter how hard we manoeuvre.

No arguement can be made, nor can we make judgement on this ageing dialogue of how we read apparent typos in the programme at the theatre.

We may think we are skilful when we fulfil our written duties, but no art class enrolment is necessary when one colours a picture while drinking a draught in one's pyjamas."

Having ploughed through that...it's back to work!!!

You'll hopefully forgive the following but I'm not so anal to complain about how the toilet paper is on the holder... I'm just glad someone besides myself put it there!

V

And much of that covers how I spell. :) I still spell travelling like this and programme like this... I don't intend to change either.
