That would be perfect English grammar and spelling in Miami. It's pretty much how the Latins disect our language. :hippy2:

I guess the irony is that it's perfect English grammar and spelling in about 95% of the countries where English is spoken.

The only major exception would be the U.S.

Now who's disecting OUR language?? :beer

You are absolutely right Preston. People in other countries are taught the "King's" or "Queen's" english... and many are taught by British citizens. It's unnerving sometimes to hear people in a foreign country speak English with the British inflections and pronounciations. Case in point, when I was in Paris, specifically China Town, l was speaking with the Vietnamese server and there was a cornucopia of accents. :) Vietnamese, French and English with a British accent. Bizarre but entertaining. I wouldn't presume to make fun because I can only speak one language well... this person spoke three.

Somewhat guilty!

Well the king updates our sites late at night and has misspelled several words , so brides would call and tell us about this, So we turned it to our advantage , find all the misspelled words get a discount, We booked 33 weddings from this, So it just goes to show, do I like it no, but, hey it worked for us,

This is my favorite one.

I actually saw this with my own eyes and almost wrecked my van:

On a HUGE light up sign with scrolling words:

Outback Steakhouse:

Try ARE Ribs

:hammer:

I give this florist the award for the poorest spelling and grammar.
It is a paid google listing found on the other chat board whose ad stated something about "% of FTD Orders"
Is this a "real" florist located in San Diego?
http://www.floweraffair.net/
Look at the top paragraph intro.
Off to whois ....... whois shows as a legit shop in San Diego, but if that is an FTD executed site as it states, their editors need English lessons or can you produce your own site through ftdfloristsonline now?

Yes this is a real San Diego Florist, they're about 3 miles from us. I think they recently changed ownership.

I have an FTD maintained site and they allow a lot more independent control then they used to. The poor grammar is definitely the fault of the florist.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a problem with this type of stuff. I am a stickler for proper use of correctly spelled words. Sometimes a typo happens but I find that alot of people use your for you're and similar things. I may not have the best grammar, but I try.
"alot"?????

While "alot" does not exist as a word, it is a common practice to join the a and lot together.

Allot does exist as a word however. :)

It too drives me nuts when I see people write "your going to love this"... ARGHHHHH It's a contraction of you are, therefore the correct spelling and use is "you're going to love this". This drives me to distraction.

I heard on the news the other day that the U.S. youth population is teetering on spelling illiteracy due to texting and the like. Sadly many people think "how r u" is an actual English sentence.

My favorite is "where are you AT".
for the record, i really don't care too much in here, but i'm always concerned when we are putting an ad together.
if i ever quit my current gig, i could be a copy editor!

Fairfield, because I work with so many people from all over the planet my take on their language skills is much different. Most of them have more than one language under their belt, most of them have studied English as a second or third language. I'm monumentally impressed by them.

I am unimpressed by the people who are born and raised in an English speaking home and can't string a sentence together that makes sense in either grammar or spelling.

Personally I think we need to care every time we sit down to write.

well, if i got too "proper" in here my personality wouldn't show.
Take mark twain's writings, he always wrote the dialog of his characters with feeling. i'm very down to earth, unpretentious, goofy, bubbly, and a bit silly. i never put on a front. i want people to really know who i am, not just my design skills. i write in here just as i speak. FYI. sometimes i even sing in the walk in cooler, the acoustics are great!

Umm...OK...Why is that directed my way? Did I say something wrong?

No, not wrong just the comment about the way the Latins have "disected" the language made me think about how the born English speakers can't seem to get a handle on their native tongue. :)

Shannon, Mark Twain wrote with feeling and correct spelling and grammar. We can be exactly who we are while talking or writing, just spell it or speak it correctly. :)

One of my pet peeves is, "Give it to him and I." I've never understood why that is such a difficult thing. Give it to him. Give it to ME.

I've read this again and again and sincerely hope that I haven't made an error in grammar or spelling! LOL

Personally, for this site and in emails, PMs, etc. I don't care how things are spelled or grammatically stated as long as the posts are sincere and do not personally attack any one person or group. For example, I found offensive a post from a Newbie who had recently moved from "up North" to a small town in SC, and she referred to bingo being played with cow chips in this town.

I feel So Honored for this!!

I want to thank you for all of your kind words, I am so gulity of this, because I am always doing two to three things at a time when , on this wonderful site, So please forgive me, thank goodness I am more professional for my customers things...........

LOL,,,

I am so sorry if I offended anyone, bbut I so deserve this award, so that other shop is not at the top of the list to get it,,,,
