No, not wrong just the comment about the way the Latins have "disected" the language made me think about how the born English speakers can't seem to get a handle on their native tongue. :)

Shannon, Mark Twain wrote with feeling and correct spelling and grammar. We can be exactly who we are while talking or writing, just spell it or speak it correctly. :)

i don't know victoria......
I remember a whole lot of words misspelled when it was dialog

One of my pet peeves is, "Give it to him and I." I've never understood why that is such a difficult thing. Give it to him. Give it to ME.

I've read this again and again and sincerely hope that I haven't made an error in grammar or spelling! LOL

Personally, for this site and in emails, PMs, etc. I don't care how things are spelled or grammatically stated as long as the posts are sincere and do not personally attack any one person or group. For example, I found offensive a post from a Newbie who had recently moved from "up North" to a small town in SC, and she referred to bingo being played with cow chips in this town.
ditto that connie!

however, and i'm serious when i say this, sometimes bingo is played with cow chips!
it's silly but true! but if that person was just being mean, shame on them!

My favorite is "where are you AT".

So a kid from a Hick Town is walking across campus at Harvard, stops 2 students and asks:

"Excuse me could y'all tell me where the library is at?"

One replies "At Harvard we don't end our sentences with prepositions."

Kid sez, "excuse me - Could y'all tell me where the library is at.......asshole?"

You all are a tough group! Please forgive my grammar, I have a different mentality when posting on message boards or texting. Sometimes I will use slang or improper sentence structure to add expression or emotion to my posts. Or sometimes I'm just lazy and opt to not double check.

Ok I fixed it, but don't forget, in America we don't allow Canadians to correct our Spanglish.

I do my best to use proper grammar and spelling all the time. When I read something that has been poorly written I usually assume that the individual doing the writing has done their best also. This assumption is accurate most of the time.

I use to believe that everyone was capable of learning to spell. My daughter attended Kindergarten when she was 4 because she was way above the other children. When she started to learn to spell we realized she was really struggling. We drilled and drilled the spelling words every known teaching tool was used for this. She failed the test week after week. The more she studied, and wrote, and visualized them the worse she did. In high school she was tested for a learning disability even though the only area she had problems in were spelling, they found nothing. She took her ACT and SAT's and scored in the 95th percentile for Science, and Math. She scored in the 85% for English. She had to take an assessment exam to enter nursing, every area she had awesome scores, except her scores in spelling, they were barely 60%. A portion of the spelling section you had to choose the correctly spelled word out of several misspelled and even that part was difficult for her. So, I have concluded that it is not always about trying to do better, or learning the English language, or caring about doing it right. There are people that know matter how hard they try or how much they care will never learn how to spell, just as there are flower arrangers and designers and know matter how you try one is not the other.

Care to correct my spelling and grammar??

that's funny!

I would just like to say that I CAN spell.... I just can't type.! - Absolutely:hammer: hopeless....

I paid close attention to the grammar in today's posts on this message board and I found a plethora of errors. I don't think it's a product of poor grammar, I think it's just a product of casual message board expression.

I give posters including myself multiple mulligans on posting on this board, but penalty strokes for errors on their websites or formal letters.

:) Mulligans sound fair.

It'z not taht I cannnot type or speill but that I am often in a rush and want to get "my point" across and back to work...

Sometime I correct them, some times I don't...I'd be willing to bet I have the record for the most mis-spelled words on FC...but who's counting?

Mark, you would definately NOT take the prize. There are others out there who would beat you. ;)

Shannon, while Mark Twain did use the grammar and spelling patterns of the characters in his books, I'm certain, during normal discourse and writing he reverted back to better English.

I rarely shorten words (U R , what's that about), because I really do like the language and appearance of whole words. I like the cadence, I like the power it gives, I like words. :)

I think the best of us definitely need some help. . .

Even the FC spell checker catches this one.

Not picking, but if we nit pick, we can find it.

I try to always "PREVIEW POST" before sending and this time I caught myself spelling it "definitley" in the Title.

Spell check must not work for the title to a post.

definately

Idiot-speak for "definitely". One of the most common moronic misspellings found on the internet.

;) You pass the test Glenn

English is a great language.

I intend to learn english one day.

My knowledge of grammar is not very good. I could not tell a dangling participle from a misplaced pronoun.
