Cool Flower Shop Websites

Sorry have to disagree (imagine!) here...that Lotus site bites. I am beginning to see that the real use of FLASH is for "accents", not overall design. My open source osFlowerCart package (that should be ready for release in early January) will have hooks for FLASH accents and easily modifiable color schemes.

I will be providing email support as needed for the project. I hope anyone here who is TIRED of paying TF and FTD 50+ dollars a month will download and install this OPEN and FREE flowershop based e-commerce site. Site hosting should only be about $5-7/ month through a low cost hosting site (i use IPOWERWEB)

I will be posting a link to it probably tomorrow.

I've been thinking about the lotus sight in my sleep. I agree with Lady Knife's statement about their target, GREAT CALL, as Cathy pointed out, but I've seen NYC sights that hit the same market that are a lot cleaner.

My final conclusion is, these guys are just having fun and that's what it is all about. They seem to be paying the bills just fine. Behind this site I see a certain amount of eccentric flair, but it takes all types.

The site reminds me of a Picasso. At first glace, you think a 4th grader did their flash, but the more you delve, you discover that you assume wrong.

I still think the site is ugly and their design awesome, but like I said, they are having fun, hitting their target and paying their bills. And not all florists can say that.

6 months ago when I saw this sight I decided not to put this in my own personal "cool website" lists because to see 5 of there designs took too long, and I even have a cable connection. I think I'll put them on my list now, since their floral designs are to my liking. :) Thanks Cathy for posting their link and changing my mind.

Direct-shippers

http://www.bloomen.co.uk/ - Brandon, here's one you might find interesting since it ships assorted bunches and goes for a higher quality shopping and gifting experience.

http://www.bellissimo.co.nz/ Not your average flowers in a box. Their packaging is distinctive and much more gift-like. http://www.bellissimo.co.nz/p/v/delivery-information/the-bellissimo-box/

http://www.sandrabegan.com/ Designer of fresh wreaths and mantlepieces. Very Martha-esque and very chic.

http://www.jane-carroll.com/ Fresh designer that ships her completed compositions throughout the US. Some of her products are also availble through 1800flowers.com.

No cookie-cutter work here - http://www.florachicago.com/ The ordering page lets shoppers choose between "Design Your Own Arrangement" and "No Brainer - I want Flora to design my arrangement." Guess which path the women pick and which one's used by the guys. LOL

I also like the clean look with the splashes of floral images.

TY Cathy :) I lov e the DIY English site :) VERY nice.

I have already posted this in my best of list, but they have done some upgrading and it looks great!

These images are breath taking. Be inspired.

There are two ways people find websites. One, people can find them by stumbling upon them, such as showing up in search engine results, and two, people can find them by searching for the specific site, such as typing in the url or searching for the company name. This company obviously uses the ladder approach.

It’s my opinion most florists focus too much effort trying to get people to stumble upon their site and not enough time creating a unique brand enticing people to search them out.

Why do you think that's a yahoo site? No ecommerce that I could find.

I'm not really that impressed. Pretty brochure site and that's all I see. Does it exist solely for an ego site?

sorry...

The last two lines of their source code, all the way at the bottom....maybe I'm wrong....

Most mature sites with decent home page PR display some type of PR for interior pages. (I'm assuming that certain types of dynamically generated and/or flash pages may not.)

Here's a link to a thread about interior pages, PR on the toolbar and what some believe to be diminishing value of PR in general from Webmaster World. (requires login to read)

BTW, I found that thread by Googling for "page rank interior pages". On my toolbar, the PR is just 2 yet it was the #1 result out of 2,370,000.

Brandon, the site is indeed gorgeous. Thanks!!!

I tend to think of a website like a physical storefront. If a shop's attractive, timely and well maintained then being located on a busy corner beats being tucked away in an industrial complex. Local customers stumble upon our real store every day and it's up to us to fulfill their needs and keep them coming back. Not much different than the web in that respect.

Lost in a Google search on page 3 or lower won't help the shopper who doesn't already have a florist in mind.

I agree with your point that local buzz, referrals and branding are necessary for long-term, sustained success. :)

Bloomz, tell me what you meant by, "Does it exist solely for an ego site?" :)

Chic shop with custom portfolio as well as a shopping cart.

Very nice informational content and her online ordering items are lovely. "Express Yourself" puts the focus on the customer's sentiment and off the 'designer'. Nice touch.

Not sure the green cymbidium design on the home page does the rest of her work justice.

OK, so it's not a flowershop....

It's still a very cool site...

These are the new roses I am just starting to carry... look for another thread in the product forum about their roses...

(thought the website deserved a nod)

Spent 2 days in a SEO workshop on Mon/Tue....music on a website was on the "DON'T DO" list.

As soon as I opened it work and the music came on...I imediately exited, and I will "try" to remember to look at it at home. The seminar said that action is pretty typical, since a huge amount of surfing goes on at work when they should be working (like me now?!).

They have an off button, top right... just an fyi...
Nope, did not see it....to busy trying to exit out of it.....

The one/off button for the music was asked at the SEO seminar, and their answer was..."JUST DO NOT DO IT".....for what is worth.

But, thanks for letting me know....so I can turn it off later.

What does music have to do with SEO? Do search engines not rank a page higher if they have music?

I like music if... it doesn't take more than 3 sec to load and it sounds pleasant. If their reasoning was, because people surf at work, that sounds like it is their problem and not the websites. :)

And when you ask a question and the best they can come up with is, "JUST DO NOT DO IT", it means nothing to me. Now if it affects your SEO negatively, then I want to know about it because I'm doing a site now with sound(s). :)
