No! They remind me way too much of the eighties!:boggles:

Why do you hate the eighties? While I truly love the hand tieds of today, I also think we have had some pretty outstanding designs done in bygone eras and eventually, everything is new again.

I don't see a lot of difference in time designing cascades over hand tieds and you can maybe get a few more bucks out of them than handtied.

I think hand tied bouquets are much easier and faster.

Oh well, I think the new gala bouquet holders that J designed are kind of cool, so I will have to try something different in a cascading style next time, rather than the same old eighties looking bouquet.:brandreco

I have mixed feelings. With shower bouquets, i think the value perception is much higher as the consumer can see immediately that there is a design element while in a handtied I think sometimes I am sure they think they could do one.

Also, with showers, I have to do these in the morning of a wedding and if you have three weddings on this can be a drag. Handtieds can be done earlier making the logistics so much easier.

Jury is still out on this one :)

Yes, I do love the gala bouquet holders, too.

But I'd love to have some brides that would love Tracy D'Amico's cascade at the top of page 48 in this post (the cool cool cool wire one with the phals) and Aqua's uber cool cascade at the top of page 40. Both of those, to me, are modern interpretations of the cascade. WOW! Great eye candy :headbang:

Hand ties are way easier, but, what is more beautiful than an elegant, flowing, cascading bouquet. Nothing...
What I love about cascades is that create movement as the bride is walking down the aisle.
I like the element of movement, adds interest and intrique.

Paula, we do showers the day before in a holder and then water it the next morning before we spray glue the oasis to hold the flowers in place, they have always held up beautifully for us. We also advise the bride to water it later in the day and day after to keep it longer.

Sorry, Looking back at the 80's, everything seemed a bit cheesy to me! LOL

The music, the hair, and yes the flowers! LOL

I know, i have heard a few saying they do them the night before but i am always too scared. I have convinced myself now and if i did it the night before i probably wouldnt sleep.. I should i know :)

Try a sample one Paula, I always do on something I'm not sure of will hold and I want to be able to sleep. I have already used bouquet holders that I cut the grid off, put new Oasis in and replace grid plus tape. They're left over from bridal shows, I just keep reusing, saves a few pennies and is available for test runs. We've always done ours the day before for years and no worries, also enables us to see if a flower lost contact and is susceptible to wilting so we can replace it before it goes out.

I promised I would share these and my professional pics just came in today.
I feel a little self indulgent posting these because it's my wedding, but the flowers, I thought, were really nice.
(FYI, no I didn't make any of this stuff)

Chantelle - your pics are gorgeous! I think the flowers are beautiful. I'm so glad you were happy with them. I loved everything about my wedding... except the flowers. I'm still bothered today that I didn't make my bouquets!

Did a small wedding today. I wasn't excited when the bride asked for red and white... roses and callas no less. B-O-R-I-N-G! Anyway, I convinced her to add some orchids, fern curls, and berries, and I LOVE the results. I sprayed the fern curls with shiny DM, which was a first for me.

The maid's bouquets are my "budget" bouquets. I do these for $48... they're designer's choice. The bride picks the color and I use whatever is inexpensive at the flower mart. These have some mini carns, carns, poms, mini mums, and a few roses.

I love that bouquet Jennifer! I've never seen orchids like that - wavy - very cool - what variety?

I know, arent' they awesome?! It's an odontoglossum/oncidium. I bought it as a live plant and snipped the blooms.

I'm beginning to love cascades more and more- especially a bouquet of casading phales, callas or tulips where the flower cascades in a natural form.

However, I agree with the comments regarding cascades being made last minute. We make hand tieds on Wed. for Sat weddings (gasp). If there are elements that need to be wired, then the base is made and those are added last minute. To wire on a Friday night and have to mist, makes a huge difference in production/ longevity. I love getting the bouquets out of the way early.
